Many of the recipes on this site are written with a whole wheat/white flour combo, for two reasons. 1) I truly do want to feed my family quality, nutrient-dense foods, but 2) I want it to taste good. Who can blame a girl, right?
Ever since I discovered it last spring, though, I’ve been sharing my obsession with white whole wheat flour with anyone who will listen. White Whole Wheat flour is made with hard white spring wheat. So, it’s whole grain, but with a similar taste and texture to all-purpose white flour. Yipee!
My pancakes and waffles are now made exclusively with white whole wheat flour, as are my hamburger buns. I also sub it (sometimes liberally!) in many of my muffins and quick breads. It is so very nice to not have to combine different flours to get a tasty texture!
My only problem with white whole wheat flour is that I could only find one brand at one store. Until now. Available in grocery stores this September is Gold Medal White Whole Wheat flour. It’s great to have options!
