Salmon Question: I think I’ve eaten salmon (other than the occasional salmon patty) twice in my life.  Once, in Spain.  I’ve never purchased it, but it’s on sale this week (wild caught) for $4.20/lb. Is that a good price?  If I buy it, what should I do with it?  My cousin grilled it once… delish!  But, I have no idea how he did that.  Help!  ;-)

We eat a lot of salmon. I usually marinate it in olive oil, lemon juice, salt and pepper then bake it in the oven at 375 for about 15 minutes (I think) or until it flakes with a fork.

Here are a few salmon recipes I’ve been wanting to try though:

I enjoy salmon, and thankfully my kids do too! Here’s a link to how I’ve made it a couple times and it’s good: http://cafejessica.blogspot.com/2009/01/honey-soy-salmon-with-cilantro-rice.html

Here’s a link to another way I’ve made it that’s amazing….but expensive because of the honey and pecans it takes. But SO GOOD as a treat and the topping is awesome on ice cream if you have any leftover! http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Salmon-with-Pecan-Honey-Glaze/Detail.aspx

I grew up in the NW eating fresh salmon. Like straight from the river. I miss it so much. It is so expensive here in middle America. I usually buy the frozen fillets at Sam’s. I think that is a pretty good price you said. It is usually at least $4 lb. Here is one of my favorite recipes to use.http://www.tasteofhome.com/Recipes/Teriyaki-Salmon
I use it with whatever cut I have. But I don’t broil it, I wrap it in foil and bake like at 350 for 15-20 minutes or until done. I like it wrapped in foil it keeps it really moist. Also be careful with marinades and fish. You can’t leave them in more than about 2 hours or the texture will change. You can also just squeeze lemon juice on it, salt and pepper and bake or juice and a little lemon pepper. Grilling is also good. Sorry for so much info. If you can’t tell I love salmon. :)

  6. Yes, that is a good price for wild salmon! :) I grew up during my teenage years in Alaska, where we ate salmon constantly- which we dipnet fished for ourselves. Yum.

I like to bake mine in foil with butter, lemon, garlic, and herbs. Or, my dad likes to bake/BBQ his in foil with mayonnaise and seasoning salt. It’s a very lean fish, so you’ll want to add a fat to it for flavor. Don’t bake it too long- usually no more than 12-20 min.

    Blessings,
    Michele
