Happy Second Blogiversary to Kristen over at We Are THAT Family! She’s having a link-up of THAT family moments and, well… we qualify! Here’s the evidence.
How about the time my then 2-year-old girl and 1-month-old boy joined me for daddy’s afternoon football game. It was a jv game, and the crowd was thin at best, so we parked ourselves in an empty section of the stands on the lower level. Right by the cheerleaders.
Baby was hungry, so I settled in to nurse him. Two-year-old happily cheered along with the big girls. Without warning, THAT daughter of mine surprised us all as she stripped down to her underwear lightening fast. When I caught her out of the corner of my eye and ran down to stop her, she protested “Mom! It’s too hard to cheer in my overalls!” I bought her a cheerleading outfit the next week.
Perhaps one of our first basketball games in Tiny Town define us as THAT family. After the game the kids (then 3 1/2 and 1 1/2) and I waited in the lobby while Lance finished his duties at the end of the night. I was holding the toddler to keep him out of mischief as the crowd left the gym. That worked real well until he reached out and pulled the fire alarm.
We were most certainly THAT family last year at my extended family Christmas gathering. Running late (as usual) we couldn’t find appropriate socks for our youngest’s outfit. Oh well, no one will see the socks, I convinced myself as I strapped on a pair of Halloween socks under her red Christmas pants. And yes, they did notice.
I try to not make a habit of leaving my hubby in the store with three children on his own. It couldn’t be helped THAT time, though, as I ran back for one more thing while he unloaded our cart on the conveyor belt. Good thing he’s quick. Our son’s vomit missed our purchases, but sure made a mess of the cart and floor! “We’ve got a problem,” he said as I ran back with my one more thing.
Are you THAT family, too? Link up over at Kristen’s place. There are prizes!

LOL! Those are good!
Yep, fire alarm is an automatic induction into the THAT Family hall of fame.
Good job, Mom!
Loved this post!!! Thanks for sharing those “THAT” moments with us.
oh! the vomit stories! I won’t even go there today…
We are THAT family. My daughter has a very cranky baby. We pulled her out of numerous events kicking and screaming. People see us coming and think, “oh no…not THAT family again”:-(
Too funny! I know not at the time right? My sister when we were ‘kids’ kicked the emergency stop button on the escalator at the mall. SAME trip she wrapped a long strap purse around her head several times almost choking herself. I’m sure my mom had thoughts of never taking us to the mall again.
Yep, you qualify in SO many ways! Hilarious!
Thanks for playing along!
I felt a little bit like THAT family last night when I looked back as I was retrieving my bags at Target to find my not-yet-1-year-old daughter STANDING UP in the front part of the cart, teeter-tottering and the people behind us gasping in horror.
But this is the post I submitted: http://www.vanderbiltwife.com/2009/06/its-poop-again.html
@Vanderbilt Wife, um yes. I know the near-disaster shopping cart incidences too well…
Oh those are too funny!! Yes, you qualify!
Oh, you reminded me of the time my then 5 year old son shut down the lights…in a warehouse…during a gymnastics meet…while the gymnasts were competing. Those lights don’t just come back on…it takes time. Yeah, we’re THAT family, too.
@Hope, My brother-in-law did that at a baseball tournament once. Climbed the pole to do it, too!
I’ve tried to block those moments from memory, altho I know there are plenty! Love the post, “MOM’S” not so perfect eh? Just Kidding!
@Polly, Perfect? What’s that?!
Those moments happen to the best of us!
I guess we’re THAT family too.
There was the time when my 3-year-old yelled “SHIP” at the top of her lungs in the airport (yes, shiP…not the other word it sounds *exactly* like).
And there was the time when she prayed, “Dear God, help mom’s boobs to feel better” (I had just had baby #2 and nursing was quite uncomfortable for those first 2-3 weeks).
Yes, we have definitely had our moments.
