Being frugal doesn’t have to take the fun out of your Valentine’s Day celebration. In fact, with a little creativity you can celebrate big without spending big, the Finer Things way. Here are a few ideas to get you started.
Have fun with your food.
- Cut food into heart shapes: toast, pancakes, quesadillas, etc.
- Eat red: strawberry topping for breakfast, apples with yogurt dip, strawberry pretzel salad with dinner (or for dessert!).
- Fix your favorite restaurant meal at home.
Enjoy the day with your family.
- Play tic-tac-toe with the x’s and o’s.
- Create Valentine messages for each other on the driveway with sidewalk chalk.
- Watch home movies together, because those are the best love stories!
If you’re going on a date…
- Share the expensive, over-sized entree then head out for ice cream.
- Go out for breakfast. You’ll save money and won’t have to fight the supper crowd.
- Utilize Redbox and cuddle up to watch a movie at home.
How will you cherish your loved ones this Valentine’s Day?

Great ideas! We need to start some Valentine traditions around here.
Great ideas! I might have to try cutting quesadillas into hearts, I have that on the menu plan for this week anyways.

That looks wonderful! I should definitely try that this year!
I’m not sure how I’m going to celebrate Valentine’s this week but I’m thinking about it. The younger children have decorated paper bags and are waiting for valentine’s to fill them.
Thanks for the ideas.

More great suggestions! I love holiday tackles like this:-)
Thanks for all the ideas!
We are going out for a matinee and then an early dinner. My son has a hockey game in the evening. Nothing says love like sitting on cold bleachers in a chilly hockey rink!
I host a ladies’ tea party every year to celebrate Valentine’s Day with my best friends. I also pick up little trinkets when they go on clearance after V-day and save those for the next year for my two little girls. My husband and I don’t usually go out to dinner on Valentine’s Day, but choose another night when places are less busy to celebrate. Thank you for your ideas, they’re great!
Great ideas. My Dad used to fix our food to revolve around holiday themes. It brought me such great joy as a kid to eat red things on Valentine’s Day! Thank goodness red dye #3 was banned by then!
How cool! I love all the fun ideas for Valentine’s Day! Oooh, and strawberry pretzel salad. I haven’t had that in ages. I’m putting it on my menu for a special dessert next week.
WE’re going to do movies and some crafts for Valentine’s.
The strawberries and dip in the picture look really good. I think maybe I’ll serve that. Since my daughters and I all share the same sweetheart, we usually celebrate by making some little treat to put by their Daddy’s plate at dinner. A heart-shaped chocolate peanut butter cookie or something like that. Their dad celebrates by … eating it.
We are in LOVE with Redbox…great suggestions! I can’t wait to try some of them.
