Yes, I’m thankful for faith, family and friends. But let’s skip the ordinary litany of Thanksgiving blessings. Here are 13 things I get to choose to be thankful for.
- The mountain of clothes piled on the floor, threatening to consume my girls’ room… those beautiful hand-me-downs given generously by family and friends remind me that we live in abundance.
- The opportunity to tidy various rooms in the house several times a day is a constant reminder… we are home and we truly live in our home.
- The $300ish we spent on pick-up repairs last month is a good thing… our 1994 Nissan is still functional and serves its purpose, removing any “need” to spend money on a newer vehicle.
- My unorganized, full to the brim kitchen pantry… provides a visual that we eat well. Again, we live in abundance.
- My husband’s less-than-ideal paycheck… I am thankful that his income is steady; his job secure. What he brings home is enough for me to do what I do best… stretch it!
- The weather is turning colder and we are unable to spend as much time outside… it has to get cold before it can snow. We love the snow!
- The four raised, sometimes bothersome inch-long scars on my back and arm… provide constant reminding that we caught my melanoma quickly and offer encouragement to take better care of my skin.
- The one channel of tv that we have… encourages creativity and productivity in our free time.
- We live 15 miles from any stores… which provides incentive to plan and organize my infrequent shopping trips and learn to make do with what we have.
- My children’s relentless questions (why? how? what?) pepper my day with interruptions… and make me smile at the wonder of natural curiosity.
- The inevitable fight or whine or general increase in decibels brought on by said children throughout the day… we asked for it, and prayed for it, and pleaded for it. We’re out of the trenches!
- The baby and I have been fighting congestion and other cold symptoms this week… not cancer or another serious illness.
- I’m exhausted from staying up too late… enjoying new blogging friendships!
…give thanks in all circumstances…

That’s a fun twist on the usual thankful list!
great list. Happy Thanksgiving!!
What a wonderful list, you do have alot to be thankful for.
This is a wonderful list. I really enjoyed it a lot. It makes me think about my own list that I posted, and how much deeper I could have gone.
Happy Thanksgiving, and happy 13ing!
I did an ordinary litany too.
What a wonderful post!!
This is a wonderful post! We often forget to be grateful for the little things! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving…
Love the list. I started a ‘daily thanksgiving’ in my sidebar earlier this month to remind myself to find thankfulness in the ordinary, everydayness of life. I have much to be thankful for.
I love your list. What a beautiful reflection of all we have been given and all the blessings we sometimes fail to notice! I especially love #11. When my kids test my patience I try to remember how very many loving couples would gladly take my place. Thanks for showing what a huge difference our attitudes can make!
