The View From Here

Blurry photo courtesy Mr. 3, but it pretty much sums things up.

It’s a little blurry around here lately, but the cheer? It’s there, too.

The basement is finished! But, it’s not at all finished. Our only access right now is through the south egress window, because the old stairway leading down to our old partial basement? Is no longer a stairway. More on that later (think, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie and add a 100 year old home…) but suffice it to say we’ve only crawled down a couple of times for rollerblading and general running around like the crazy people we are.

Also, I haven’t had a washer or dryer in my home since November 4.

We dragged our partially decorated tree across the living room yesterday. It’s been like this for a week. Almost a “lights are on, but nobody’s home” look. ;) We realized yesterday that when the finishing crew gets started in the basement (they should this week) they’ll need to cut the hole through our living room to make stairs rather quickly, to start hauling supplies (and hopefully our washer and dryer). Guess what has sat for the last 7 Christmases in the corner where the stairs are going? Yep. The tree.

Now that’s it’s moved, I should probably get around do decorating the poor thing. Wonder if Miss 1 has had her fun with the lower level stuff and will leave it all alone now?  Yeah. Not counting on it, but a mama can hope!

Sixteen days until Christmas and I’m already feeling the blur. Two kids have fought the stomach plague and won (yay for EOs!) Simplified meals and schedules are the name of the game, so we can focus on the important things.

The view from here is messy and incomplete. There is much uncertainty and anticipation. Maybe that’s just how it should be.

  1. I would venture a reasonable guess that your precious children won’t remember the craziness but rather think of this as the cool Christmas where they got to rollarblade in the basement and had cool holes cut in new places and the tree started a new traditional place. They will be fun memories!
