The Un-Menu Plan

My menu planning motivation is lacking tonight.  Funny how that happens with sick kids at home… Ever had a child upchuck in the check out line at Wal Mart?  It was a first for me Saturday night!  Joy has a story that beats mine, though.  I’ll spare you the details.  ;-)   Anyway, last night it was the 3 year old, this morning the bug got a hold of the 17 month old.

Everyone is on the up and up tonight, though.  We even got our Christmas tree decorated!  Time to get back to some menu business.  I’m making it easy on myself since Lance has a basketball tournament with games Monday, Tuesday and Friday.  Here’s what we’ll be eating this week… provided no one else gets sick.

Sunday 12/7

  • waffles
  • homemade chicken soup and grilled cheese sandwiches
  • um, that was about the limit to our appetite today  ;-)

Weeknight Suppers

  • Tex-Mex potatoes, apples (no daddy meal)
  • banana pancakes, orange slices (no daddy meal)
  • bbq brisket, twice-baked potatoes, green beans, homemade rolls

Scratch it.  Scratch it all! The writing of this post was interrupted by the puking of our 5 year old.  Here we go again!  I think I’ll skip the rest of my menu planning efforts this week.  If you have any meal ideas and/or recipes that go over well with weak stomachs, please send them my way.  I would much appreciate it!

And about that brisket meal… I will be making that just as soon as everyone is feeling better.  I have to because next week I’m serving it up at our Bloggy Progressive Dinner, and you’re all invited!  Check it out!

I think when my kids are feeling better, I’ll head on over to Organizing Junkie for some real menu inspiration.  You should, too!

I always give my kids toast and rice when they are sick. Limit the proteins and load up on carbs. They are a lot easier on sick tummies. Keep them hydrated, too! Hope they feel better soon!

Toast and applesauce. Bland, bland, bland. Hope everyone is better soon.

  6. Ah, hope you all feel better soon. That is SOOOO not fun. :(

Go with a BRAT diet for awhile. Bread, Rice, Applesauce, and Toast. I usually do saltine crackers and chicken noodle soup.

Also make up some homemade Pedialyte. :) Here is a recipe…1 liter drinkable water, 1 tablespoon salt, 2-3 tablespoons sugar, 1/2 packet kool-aid or jello. I keep some of the clear kool-aid packets around just for this purpose so I can flavor it without the coloring so cleaning up the mess isn’t so difficult. Or I sometime will stir 7-up or Sprite to get the fizzy out of it and let them have that for something different.

I am SOO sorry to hear about the Walmart experience!!! I have 5 kids and have been through that same miserable scenario!! I feel your pain!! Our favorite remedy is room temperature sprite or popsicles. Hope you are all on the mend!!!
