The Good Life {Finer Things Friday}

As far as I’m concerned, one of the most important things we can do to get ready for this baby is not spend all of our time and energy getting ready for the baby.  Babies come when they come and they truly need very little to be comfy, cozy, and well-cared for.

Our other four children?  They need a mom and dad who aren’t exhausted and worried about the never-ending to-do list.  They need to have some fun!  And so we have.

Tonight?  Our annual trip to the county carnival.

Such a good big sister to hop on a kiddie ride with the little dude.

Pretty sure this was taken right before he let go with one hand to wave.  Crazy kid.

Couldn’t find this one for a while.  No worries, it’s a small carnival and we knew several families there, but still… went to look for him, and had to look up!  By himself?!  I yelled, “I would have gone with you!” and he just shook his head, “No!”  and waved his arms.  Apparently, somebody is quite independent, thankyouverymuch.

I’m not freaking out.  I’m not freaking out.  I’m not freaking out.  “Sit still!  Don’t lean over!  Don’t move that bar!  Don’t rock back!”  Guess I’m not as brave as I was years ago…

Speaking of brave… who needs a roller coaster partner?  Not this one!  After this I caught her on the ferris wheel by herself!

Melt a mama’s heart.

Tonight we’re celebrating small town simplicity, cheap entertainment, and old-fashioned family fun.  What Finer Things are you celebrating this week?  Link up and let us know!

  1. Good for you–doing something not baby related! It’s so hard, but there won’t be much time for non-baby stuff in the next few months, as you’re well aware! :-)

Linked up my rambling as I explore new images to represent me! So thankful to have the skills to draw on!!

  2. I love the bottom picture! My friend caught a rare moment like that of my two littlest ones and I treasure it, especially because its my two littlest ones who argue the most! so seeing them share an embrace reminds me they do love each other.

  3. Connie Sue says:

I’m with ya on the “not as brave thing.” I would be fine on a roller coaster by myself but going with my children… now that’s a whole other ball game.

  4. I’m glad you’re at the end of your pregnancy. You might not be able to read my post if you were at the beginning! I left link #8, Do You Have the Guts to Butcher a Chicken? I’m considering getting meat chickens and this post is a newbies experience to see if it’s worth it.

  5. We are looking forward to the county fair here in a few week. Tomorrow my son and I are walking in a parade with the MOPS group we go to — he is so excited that he is gets to THROW the candy in a parade. It is the simple fun.

I linked up with the messy fun we had with homemade sidewalk chalk paint.

  6. Oh, I love this! And I totally agree. Love it!! We took the kids to the zoo one week before G. was born and it was so much fun. Of course, that particular zoo had this carousel that went SO crazy fast, I got dizzy beyond belief (and, yes, I totally blamed the pregnancy ;)), but it was still a whole ton of fun!

  7. Deborah Jennings says:

Amy, I love your family! I am so glad that you are doing things for the ones that are already here. =) They really need to know that they are important, too. What you are doing will help them to not resent the new little one. Good Job, Mom!

  8. We spent an evening at the county fair a week prior to this! I am with you on not being as brave as I used to be when it comes to fair rides. I loved them as a kid. Now I’m content to watch!

  9. Missed you by a day! We’ll be hanging out at the fair and carnival this eve. Did any of your kiddos ride the swings? Newberry Family Motors is sponsoring and our fam is helping operate tonite. Having fun telling people we’re gonna be “carnies” – asked Alec if he wanted me to go buy tattoos at Alco. He just gave me the, “let’s not go that far!” look. Like I would, ha! Bet baby kicked on that ride around the Farris wheel! Good times ;)…

  10. Oh Amy, could you be any cuter :D?! I completely agree — babies don’t need much in the beginning and it’s nice to spend time with your other kids before the new baby arrives! we are going on vacation with my family soon and we are going to an amusement park (closest one is 8+ hours away!) and I’m so excited.

  11. Amy,
I just want to thank you for showing us your photos. The one of you and your littlest dud wearing the green shoes is one I truly appreciate. My son has shoes the same color and I have been thinking they are too “girly” of a color for a boy. So thank you Mama for letting me know it’s “okay” and that I was making too big of a deal about nothing!

  12. They are so precious! Love the faces and the last picture melts me!

  13. Such cute photos! I love the brothers hug one and the shot of you and your daughter on the Ferris wheel.
