Have I told you lately how stressful my husband’s teaching and coaching job is? How he could stay at school until 7:00 every night and never be caught up? Well, it is. But aren’t all jobs to some degree?
Have I told you lately how much I love my husband’s job in between sports seasons when he can come rescue me? Ahhh, let’s talk about that! There’s a stomach bug creeping along in our home this week. 4yo dealt with it Monday, and it caught up with me Wednesday afternoon. As in right as the school kids walked through the door. “Take the baby! I’m headed to the bathroom!” Yeah, like that.
Blech.
But at 3:40, a mere 10 minutes after I emailed him, The Cavalry arrived, and I got to go to bed! “Calling in sick” is a luxury for mom, and one I’m not taking for granted.
Yesterday. Repeat. It was all over but the aches and the tired, but he knew, and he came home at 3:40 again, and I went to bed again, waking up to delicious homemade pizza and a picked up house. Ahhhh, The Cavalry. It’s definitely a Finer Thing!
What Finer Things are you celebrating this week? Link up and let us know!

Oh, that IS a finer thing! So is feeling better. I hope you are, my friend.
Amy, you are right about all of it being stressful. Different amounts and different degrees. My husband teaches on the college level and I know lots of people think professors have no work, but he spends countless hours grading, working on committees and writing and doing research. And there is no extra pay for writing.
I don’t typically get the cavalry in the cleaning dept, but my husband is very faithful to help with lots of time. I need to thank him for that more.
Hope you are all better.
Blessings,
Adrienne
Yes. The whole “unseen” part of that teaching thing… there is MUCH.
My hubby has long hours too. Same deal. He could stay there for 12 hours and still have tons to do. Crazy!
We also had a stomach thing come through our house. Hit the little guy and he was puking all night. Night Owl husbands who clean up pukie babies are definitely finer things.
Oh my word, YES!
So true! My hubby is National Guard, so if I’m sick or extremely overwhelmed I usually jokingly say “proclaim this place a disaster area & call in the Guard”
He’s been gone for the last six weeks (thankfully deployed stateside this time) and the kids & I have been taking turns being sick almost the entire time. We’ve gone from upper respiratory infections to stomach bug, and it’s gone through all 5 of us!
I’ll be glad when we’re all healthy and back together again! Will say a prayer for your family too!
Oh my goodness, I don’t know how I would manage it all as a temporary “single parent.”
That’s a nice perk! My husband works long hours year around, but my parents do live in town so when I’m desperate I call her!
