Tackle that Tree… and the lights!

I’ve heard the last of “When are we going to put up the Christmas tree, Mommy?” for the season. The task has been tackled, and here we are in all our tree-trimming glory.

First, a quick frugal public service announcement about those pesky lights. Tangled no more! We’ve had no problem with our lights since we started wrapping them around cardboard. They don’t get tangled, they don’t drive us crazy, and they last a lot longer.

To tackle the tree, you must recruit help. Cute help is best so that when ornaments break you can use the “Good thing you’re cute!” phrase to ease the tension.

We love our tree. It builds up in color-coded layers, so I can wrap the lights as we go. Please excuse the pajama pants.

Instructions were given specifically to hang all of the white bulbs in the same location. Really.

Also, please hang as many ornaments as possible at the very bottom of the tree. Hmmm… a little work to be done after bed time, I believe.

Drumroll please…

Now, where on earth did I put the tree skirt?

Looks great! Our tree is up with lights..BUT NO ornaments, they were getting picked off faster than we could put them on!

We wrap ours around the rolls from wrapping paper. It works nicely too.

I do the same exact thing with our lights and it makes it so much easier to test them to see if they survived the heat of a Texas attic and then to easily put them on the tree….

    What a lovely tree.

Your tree looks great! I think all little kids like to put ornaments in clusters, hehe. Your kids are adorable! I can’t stand tangled lights and will have to use your trick on our outside lights. I pulled out the lights for my husband and he thought they were new…we haven’t decorated our own tree for 2 years. They weren’t new, I’m just a little OCD and wrapped the lights as they were new and put them back in the original box. He thought I was a little nuts for doing it but SO glad he didn’t have to untangle anything.
