Softball Treats

by Amy on June 15, 2009

Granted, it doesn’t take much to satisfy a hungry 5-8 year old girls’ softball team (and all of their little fans) after a late game… but I’m pretty confident that these team-color softballs will be a hit!

Using a regular crispy rice treat recipe (I like to add a little vanilla), the trick to making fun shapes is parchment paper.

Dump the sticky mess onto a parchment-lined cookie sheet. Using another sheet of parchment paper (a small one just slightly larger than your hand works great), flatten it out with your hand. Work quickly; you don’t want it to set up on you quite yet.

Placing a square of parchment on the treats, press down with a cup and twist.  Remove the cup, and lift your “softball” from the pan.  Nothing sticks!

If you work quickly enough, you can then squish together the “scraps” to make more softballs, so that nothing goes to waste. Of course, my children were standing at rapt attention… ready for the scraps, so I made sure to leave a few. ;-)

People always think I’m crazy when I say this–but I absolutely can not make Rice Krispie Treats. I’ve tried, and all I get is a big goopy mess.

Yours are so cute, though! Great idea!

I KNEW I loved your blog for a reason! LOL. My girls (almost 16 and 12) have played softball since they were 5 years old….even moving on to be on the Allstar team and fall ball each year. I LOVE these! I think we’ll give this a whirl. Hey, any age would enjoy these!!!

Oh wow, those are too cute. My daughter loves to make rice crispy treats. She adds mini M&M’s to them and then even I can’t resist.

I’ve used my heart shaped cookie cutter to make treats for Valentine’s Day. And if you’ll reheat the “scraps” in the microwave, they are easy to reuse.

We love to make our Rice Krispies in shapes! Our favorites are stars for the 4th of July, Christmas trees for Christmas, and hearts for Valentine’s Day.

I never would have thought of doing balls for softball though! What a great idea! I’m sure they were a huge hit!
