Try this recipe and you’ll no longer need a can o’ joe for supper. These no fuss sloppy joes are made quickly with handy ingredients and a little simmer time. I almost always double or triple the recipe for freezer convenience.
Sloppy Joes
- 1 lb. hamburger
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 Tbsp. vinegar
- 1 Tbsp. mustard
- 1/2 c. ketchup
- 1/8 tsp. pepper
- 1 tsp. sugar
- 1/4 tsp. salt
Brown hamburger with onion. Drain. Combine in skillet with remaining ingredients. Simmer about 20 minutes.
Don’t have buns? Try these variations.
- Pour meat mixture in a casserole dish. Top with biscuits. Bake according to biscuit instructions.
- Top tortilla chips with sloppy joe meat and cheese for nachos.
- Combine with mac ‘n cheese for a hearty casserole.

We love sloppy joes here. I currently use the recipe in my good old Betty Crocker Cookbook. This one looks very similar but with the addition of vinegar and sugar. Sloppy joes are on the menu for next week, I can’t wait to taste your version.

Looks pretty much like my sloppy joe recipe. Thanks for the “no bun” ideas. The nacho one sounds great! Those deviled eggs look really good too!

This looks a lot like my sloppy joe recipe, but I usually toss bell peppers into mine too. I love the idea of putting biscuits on top- I never come up with stuff like this on my own!
I just wanted to tell you that I made your Brown Bag Burrito recipe and it is SO SO SO SO good! I’ve put it in my files as my official burrito recipe from now on

I haven’t had sloppy joes in such a long time! If my husband knew that I just was reminded about them we would probably be eating them for breakfast in the morning! Definitely hitting the weekend menu.
