Right Here, Mom

tiretower

Our little two-year-old terror is constantly in our stuff. She gets scolded for digging through my purse, unlocking hubby’s coaching bag, drawing in her sister’s notebook.  Once, she even got her Papa in trouble.  He fell asleep “on watch” and she smeared a jar of Vaseline on the wall, in her newly washed hair, on the cabinets…

A fascination with all things bags and zippers and shiny and lids drives her inquisitive instinct.  Her climbing skills aid all ventures high and low.  And sometimes, she drives me crazy.

Last Friday, in our last-minute-scramble-out-the-door rush (you’d think I’d learn) to drive 50 minutes and arrive before kickoff, I couldn’t find my wallet. Diaper bag?  Nope.  Purse?  Nope.  Table piled high with stuff?  Not there, either.

So I ask the kids.  Has anyone seen my wallet?

2yo:  “Here.”

Where?

“Right Here, Mom” as she leads me to the bag. My teaching bag (I’m teaching our high school confirmation class this year) that I had used 2 nights before.  The one she was practically yelled at for getting into earlier.  As in about 30 minutes earlier.  The one place that I never would have thought to look.

God has creative ways of humbling my scolding heart.

I was quite grateful at that moment.  Happy to be headed to the game only fashionably late, for sure, but mostly thankful for my girl.  My inquisitive, able, healthy, ornery, smart girl.

Oh, our God is so funny. :D

Kudos to you for seeing the value of your inquisitive little seeker!

Thanks for the laugh, and the lesson. My little one was like this; she’s almost 4 now and much less of a handful, but she still pulls a fast one on us now and then. We just try to remember that it means her mind is active and healthy–and that’s definitely something to be thankful for!

  3. God has creative ways of humbling me, period. :>) Now, about that tire tower . . . ?

I cracked up through this whole post :) I got one of those kinds of kiddos, and it only gets better with age. :) :0 ;)

  5. It’s hard to raise smart kids, isn’t it?

The same thing happened to me with my 2 year old except substitute wallet with keys!

Wow! That sounds just like my 2 year old daughter. She’s the most onery, inquisitive, stubborn little girl out there…hmmm, reminds me of myself ;) It definitely makes life interesting, sometimes frustrating, yet so much fun!

I know how you feel – my daughter is the same way, only she is 4 now – but still, If I’m in a similar situation I always ask my daughter first because 9 times out of 10 she knows where to look. She seems to have a VERY good memory.
