Red Hot Applesauce Salad

If you’re craving something rich and sinful for Valentine’s Day, look no further than my Chocolate Chip Cheesecake.  If, on the other hand, you need a little something festive to brighten up your Valentine’s Day supper, a nice red salad will do the trick.  One of our favorites is Strawberry Pretzel Salad.  The other is this tasty, simple salad made special with the combination of only 5 ingredients.

Red Hot Applesauce Salad

  • heaping 1/3 cup Red Hot cinnamon candies
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 small box red gelatin (cherry, strawberry, raspberry all work fine)
  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • whipped topping, optional

Combine candy and water in a small saucepan.  Heat until boiling, dissolving the candy.  Add gelatin.  Dissolve.  Add applesauce; mix well.  Pour in an 8×8 (or similar small size) dish.  Refrigerate until set.  Top individual servings with whipped topping, or spread whipped topping over all.  Easily doubled for a 9×13 pan.

  1. That is so clever. I don’t think I’ve ever had anything like that. Very pretty. Since it has gelatin, can you cut it in the shape of a heart?

  2. This sounds really fun and easy… what a fun and festive way to celebrate Valentine’s Day! I know my kiddos would LOVE this combination of flavors…

  3. That looks so good! I’ve never seen anything like that before. I know my kids would love it. I’ll have to try it soon.

Red hots always remind me of my grandma. She always kept a small glass jar of them in her kitchen cabinets and she’d give me a handful whenever I helped her with something. It’s been years since I’ve had any though. This would be a perfect excuse to buy a big bag and maybe start that tradition with my kids too. :)

  4. YummY! This sounds delish! :D

  5. My MiL makes a verison of this and it is really, really good!

  6. How fun! I have never seen anything like this, but my family definitely loves the hot, cinnamon flavor of the red hots. I think this would be a hit at our house. Thanks for sharing!

  7. Very unique idea. I need to find out WW points for this :)

    Thanks!
