Schedule. Routine. Do you have them? Do you embrace them?
In my ever-present quest to get organized, I’ve found that having a schedule and following a routine is a lifesaver! As a stay-at-home-mom, though, it’s not only the “we have to be here at this time” type of appointments that need to be remembered.
There is so much to do in a day. I am my own worst enemy when it comes to productivity with my time. If I’m organized and start tackling the important things in the morning, I have a much better day.
As a work-at-home-mom, Alyssa, from Life From My Laptop, provides helpful tips and guidance on making each day productive.
…Most everyone I know asks me “How do you do everything that you do?”…
…Scheduling, routines and being organized are three of my answers, the other two are prayer and faith…
…It took me quite some time to determine a schedule that “worked” for me and my family. This schedule also changes during certain times of the year such as “summer” or “Christmas vacation”, and I must be flexible enough to realize that…
…routine helps me to “function” and get things done. My afternoon routine involves housework, time with the kids and a bit more work time…
…Finally, staying organized is another key to productivity, such as:
- having a system for bill paying,
- a system for menu planning,
- a set grocery day,
and other similar things is how I am able to manage a household, a ministry, and a few online businesses…
…The decision to be a stay at home mom is one that I will never regret taking, no matter how hard I must work to make it all work. Even though you’re a stay at home mom doesn’t mean you can’t have a schedule. It can make you feel much more productive and in control…
More productive and in control. If that’s what a little organization (and follow-through) can do for me, I’m all for it! Be sure read the rest of Alyssa’s post to find out her morning routine philosophy for getting things done.
When are you most productive? Me… I need to get going early in the morning. The more I can have done by noon (supper included) the better!

I’m definitely one to get things going in the morning.
I am totally most productive late at night. I am blessed to have small children who usually don’t wake up until 8am.
I really need to get out my Home Planner. I made up a really nice one that I used everyday. And then life went a little weird and it has been tucked in a cabinet for quite awhile. I will have to change it up a little to include a 19 month old to the mix. Thanks for reminding me of it!
I’m really productive in the morning, but also right after lunch. Somedays if I’m not productive in the morning, it kicks in around dinner or at bedtime–which tends to get in the way. I cannot sleep if I have major things unfinished. Hoping I can just keep the production up in the morning so that I avoid that “late night rush”.
I am the most productive early in the morning before everyone gets up. Less interruptions that way:-)
What an excellent post. A lot to chew on. Thanks for sharing it.
I am also one of those that needs to tackle big stuff in the morning. If I don’t it just doesn’t get done. I have tried SO many routine variations over the years and I am slowly moving toward finding what works for me. I stumbled for a long time however because I felt I needed to have a set in stone schedule and life just doesn’t work that way. I’ve found I need a flexible schedule, I struggled with that realization because the phrase itself is counterintuitive.
So my flexible schedule is like this:
Laundry-at least a load a day, preferably two
Mon-General pickup from weekend mess
Tues-vacuuming
Wednesday-Bathrooms
Thursday-Dusting
Friday-Vacuuming
Right now everything else just gets done on an “as-needed” basis. I hope to one day be organized enough to have a time scheduled for everything.
I am still in the process of discovering just what works for us in terms of getting everything done in a day…
I do find that my energy levels dip in the afternoon. Mornings are definitly the time to get things done for me!
@Jenn @ Beautiful Calling, You and me both. Right now it’s 1:30 here. I’m shot. That’s a great time for me to get my “fun” emails and blogging stuff done.
