New Year’s Eve – Family Style

Our past New Year’s Eve celebrations have been so exciting that, um, I really don’t remember them.  Hmmm… if we did anything, it probably included family and card games.  And ever since we’ve had children, our celebrations (mine, anyway) usually include going to bed way before midnight.

We did have a great time Wednesday night, though!  Lance’s brother and his family (complete with three boys pretty much the same ages as our kiddos) joined us, along with his parents and some really close friends of the family.  The evening began with finger foods spread all over my kitchen:

  • summer sausage, cheese, crackers
  • two different cheese balls with crackers
  • tortilla roll-ups (I’ll share this recipe soon… so yummy) with salsa
  • chips and salsa
  • cheesy rotel dip with sausage
  • veggie tray
  • lots of cookies
  • peanut clusters

After “supper” the kids opened one more Christmas present that Grammy brought from a dear aunt.

When the kids tired of tearing my house apart playing, they gathered (mostly) to watch Alvin and the Chipmunks, and then The Polar Express…

… in 3D! What a treat!

The adults enjoyed a five-point pitch tournament of sorts. Oh, how I wish I had pictures to share with you, but I was too busy WINNING to take any photos. ;-) Others would claim that my father-in-law “carried” me at the winner’s table all night, but come on now… it takes two!

So, how did you ring in the new year?  Link up at FishMama’s place and let us know!  Happy 2009!

I’d love to learn how to play five-point pitch! I’m a card game lover to the core. My FIL used to be my euchre partner all the time… that’s a special relationship. :)
