After a day of heavy eating, we were ready for lighter fare on Friday. The kids lined up at the counter, standing on their pint-sized folding chairs, ready to marvel at the wonders of my blender as I made smoothies. Marvel they did… at the smoke spewing forth from the newly worthless appliance. And the smell!?! Not terribly appetizing. Our blender was quickly sent outside to “cool off” after a short announcement that the blender is shot. Guess it won’t be hard to come up with a Christmas present for Mommy this year, huh?
Later that night I overheard my five year old lamenting to her cousin that “Mommy’s blender got shot.” Hmmm… we really have to be careful about what we say around here! Anyway, I do need a new blender, and considering all the great sales to be had this weekend I’ve been researching… to the point of being completely overwhelmed. Can anyone say “Too many choices?!?“ Wow — I could really use some help. If you love your blender would you kindly share the brand name and any other pertinent information?
On to the menu plan, which won’t include smoothies this week! Oh, but it will include some crock pot meals and a couple of meals that I’ve had stashed in the freezer. I’ll be busy celebrating advent with my family and cleaning the house in preparation for Christmas decorating next weekend.
Sunday, November 30
- fried eggs, cream cheese apple muffins (from the freezer), apple slices
- baked steak, cheesy potatoes, green beans, rolls, mandarin orange salad (we shared this meal with my in-laws since we didn’t see them for Thanksgiving)
- black bean and cheese quesadillas (used the skillet) with lettuce and salsa, fruit
Weeknight Suppers
- homemade pizza or pizza braid, fresh pineapple
- taco soup with corn chips, cheese, sour cream
- stuffed shells (from the freezer), steamed veggies, homemade bread
- beef ‘n noodles over mashed potatoes, peas
- Game Night! leftovers or sandwiches, snacks to take to the gym
Saturday, December 6
- blueberry pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon
- king ranch chicken casserole (from the freezer), corn bread muffins, fruit
- clean out the fridge
Have a great week! Do yourself a favor… slow down and cherish this Advent season.

I love pizza will have to try the pizza braid
Have a great week.
So sorry to hear about your blender! Ours is nearing the end of it’s life too, I’m afraid – we haven’t had a total meltdown, but it is starting to smell hot when we use it…
Menu sounds great, take care and have a nice week!
Steph
Taco Soup is a favourite at our house. Have a good week!
Sounds like a well planned week. I menu planned too but I thought it was harder than usual as food doesn’t really sound good when you’ve eaten so much over a 3 day period! Knew I had to do it though to keep me organized this week. I got our Advent calendar out this weekend when we put up our tree.
I haven’t flipped through my Taste of Home yet, but you are the second person I’ve seen so far having the black bean and cheese quesadillas this week.
Looks like a yummy menu! My blender is a Cuisinart, I don’t know the model off the top of my head but it’s the one that comes with a blender top and a small food processor top. I like it a lot.
Glad you had a great Thanksgiving! Sorry about the blender.
I have an Oster blender that I’ve had since we got married almost 16 years ago. It has a food processor attachment, too.
Great looking menu especially the soup! Thanks for sharing!
Have a great week!
Sherry
looks like a yummy week!
Enjoy your week!
When my blender got shot I went for a Kitchen Aid Hand Blender. I LOVE IT. It is has more uses because your not limited to using the blender to blend it in. That sounds strange. Mine came with a big cup that is great for baking smoothies! It also has a wist attachment and a small food processor. Plus when you make soups of pasta sauce you can just put the stick and blend! So great!! And they have a couple of different colors. Good luck!
I’m sorry about your blender’s murder, LOL! We had just a cheapo one when we got married (a single airman doesn’t quite put a lot of thought into the quality of a blender, lol), and haven’t replaced it… we’ve been smoothieless for quite a few months now! Needless to say, I’m looking forward to hearing the tips from everyone else.

Oh, and I wanted to say, I am totally vouching for that Pizza Braid! I’ve made it three times since you posted about it, lol. Everyone loves it!
Mrs Amy, I have a smoothie maker, LOVE IT!! But I mainly use mine for smoothies or koolaide slushes!
Good Luck in your search and research!
Buy a Vita-Mix and call it a Christmas present
.
They are expensive, but worth every penny. I use mine every day sometimes 2x a day!

I remember the microwave episode. It’s amazing how attached one becomes to their kitchen appliances.
Great menu plan.
I’m drooooooooooling over your menu plan. I may have to borrow some of the recipes next week! Thanks for posting the links.
Sorry about the untimely demise of your blender. Our is an Oster that chops and blends. It was a little pricy, but well worth the money because it does a good job. I don’t remember the model #, but I do remember that we bought it last year at Kohls.
