Mis-Tinted Paint Bargain

by Amy on August 27, 2009

Sunshine in a Can for only $5 a gallon.

 Mis Tinted Paint Bargain

Not really.  When I went to the paint store to check prices and colors to redo our back porch, the clerk mentioned, “If you’re not totally set on a color, you might want to check the ‘mis-tinted’ shelf.”  (Regular and sale prices ranged from $17-32.00 per gallon.)

 Mis Tinted Paint Bargain

Someone else’s mis-tinted “trash” ended up being my sunshiny, $5.00 treasure!

Don’t forget to check the mis-tints when preparing for your next painting project.

And it couldn’t be a prettier color. I love buttery yellow.

I have a friend who works in the paint department of a local store and whenever I want to paint I check with her first to see if there are any mis-tints available close to the colors I want. Love the savings!

That is a pretty color! Good deal!

What store did you find the paint bargains in? Do ya’ll know some good stores in the area for home repair and remodling?

That’s great. We never have anything good on our mistinted shelves. Always a muddy brown color. Blech. :-)

We were very successful with mis-tinted paint. We needed approximately 2 1/2 gallons for one job. We chose three similarly (yellow/brown) based gallons of paint and mixed them all together. The resulting color is just fine! To avoid “murky” combinations, mix only warm based colors with warm and cool based colors with cool.

I love the mistints. I always check them out when I’m at Lowes or HD.

Wow. Never really thought about where the paint returns go. Thanks for this post. I’m planning to paint almost every room in my house within the next month or so. This will really save me some cash!

Quite a savings! I have never checked those aisles out, but will have to give it a go sometime to see what’s available. Great tip and reminder!

I almost always ONLY buy the ‘oops’ paint nowadays. Aside from saving money it’s more fun to wonder what the color will really look like since you can hardly tell from the little dap on the lid.

Gorgeous color! We are big fans of Oops paint as well. At one point we had 4 houses (3 rentals) and at least 2 rooms in each one were painted with $5 cans of mistints. Always a bargain.

now I dont exactly call this a ‘mistint’ but rather an awesome tint!

See my blog for current & upcoming home decor – fashion colors and you see that this is RIGHT on target.

And, unlike the most awful, horrible, irritating and well stupid canary/nearly-fluorescent yellow that someone painted the tiny country home we stayed in this summer (they had painted it AFTER they showed us photos of a nice airy pristine white little home and we had agreed to stay there), this is a likeable yellow you can actually live with.
