My main menu goal this week is to make sure the children don’t eat their weight in Halloween candy. Gone are the days that we tuck them in after trick-or-treating, hide the loot, and they forget all about it.
Good luck to me! Here’s the menu plan:
Sunday, October 30

- scrambled eggs with bacon, yogurt coffee cake muffins
- pot luck at church, I took sweet corn and deviled eggs
- popcorn, blender ice cream
Weekday Breakfasts

- apple cinnamon oatmeal
- breakfast burritos, fruit
- lazy granola
- eggs (fried or scrambled) with homemade hashbrowns
Weekday Lunches

- leftovers
- soup
- salad
- brown bag burritos
Weekday Suppers

- chili with chips and cheese, carrot sticks, apple slices
- Cheesy Chicken and Rice Casserole (no “cream of” soup!), peas
- chili cheese potatoes, fried apples
- cornmeal pancakes, sausage, eggs
- roast beef, potatoes and gravy, carrots

I had to laugh, I had just read this: http://heavenlyhomemakers.com/creamy-chicken-and-rice-casserole-with-no-cream-soups, it must be anti-cream of store bought soup week.
Ha! I saw that right after I posted my menu plan! Great minds…
When my children were younger I used to purchase a small trinket that I thought they would enjoy. On Halloween they would go trick or treating and I’d allow them to eat a few pieces (after checking & quietly counting the pieces to myself). Then I’d break out the new “toy” and say, I’ll let you have this toy if I can have “x” amount of pieces of candy from your halloween bag. I’d still let them have a few pieces for the rest of the week but they gladly gave up most of their candy for the new toy. I loved it! It may have cost me $5-$10 dollars but I’m sure it saved me $’s at the dentist office!
Great idea!
