Menu Plan, Week of November 6

We felt an earthquake last night!  I kid you not.  I had just started shutting the computer down when Lance and I both heard things rattling and then realized we were moving.  It was the weirdest thing!  (And of course I fired up the computer again to check Facebook and Twitter right away!)  So now, born and raised in Kansas, I can say I’ve still never seen a tornado, but I’ve felt an earthquake!  Did you feel it?  Where?

  1. Felt it in Hutchinson, KS. Also I love that biscuit recipe they turn out w-o-n-d-e-r-f-u-l!!!

  2. I’m in Oklahoma — had the 18-year-old-boy running to his Momma’s room… I’ll take tornadoes any day!

  3. I am very close to the epicenter and have felt at least 2 the last 2 days and I think I felt some of the aftershocks. I have lived in Ok my whole life and I don’t like earthquakes or tornados. I love the granola recipe. Do you think it would work to add pumpkin and toasted pumpkin seeds? I just made a bunch of pumpkin puree so I’m looking for ways to use it. Thanks!

  4. I live in New York..and I felt it too! Just kidding. ;)

I read in the news here it was a 5.6 earthquake and that is was located 4 miles east of Sparks. Wow! I am originally from the mid-west and I would have never guessed an earthquake. Yes, we lived through some pretty major tornado like storms and may be even a tornado nearby but never an earthquake! Must have been something!

  5. We LOVE quinoa and black beans. I make it a lot with a batch of freezer black beans (http://www.cookinwiththejohnstons.com/2011/02/rice-and-beans-beans-and-rice.html). Sometimes I add rotel either when making the beans or the quinoa just for some kick. We’ll also throw some salsa on top as well.

  6. I’m making a note to send you the porridge recipe when I get it posted (with the optional quinoa).

  8. I felt it, in Wichita KS. Everyone I know felt it here. My windows were rattling and the shelf my TV sits on was swaying slightly left to right. So strange!
