Local Frugal Fun

“This is the funnest day of my life, ever!” squealed my five year old as we we went up, then halted and rocked, then up some more, then more halting and rocking… on the local county fair ferris wheel.  (Yes, we.  Being 33 weeks pregnant didn’t keep me out of the fun!)

A total of 5 different rides, none of them big.

Simple games where everyone’s a winner.

Some would snub the dated rides.  Some would drive right on by because it doesn’t look like much from the road.  Our local Tiny County carnival isn’t anything to write home about.  Except it is. It’s safe.  It’s fun.  And the whole evening cost our family a whopping $10.

Don’t be afraid to attend community and county-wide events in your area.  Support local activities, meet new people or chat with friends, enjoy old fashioned fun.

I’d say we got our money’s worth.  😉

  1. How fun. I’m from a small town too and I still love going to the county fair! There are SO many frugal ways to have a good time…thanks for sharing!

  2. $10!?! For the whole family? That is wonderful – and totally worth it.

I’m glad you all had a fun time…even you at 33 weeks pregnant. 🙂

    • Isn’t that crazy?! The tickets were 25¢ each, and the rides were all either 1 or two tickets. The games… all 1 ticket. I couldn’t believe it!

  3. Love, love the shot of your sleepy girl with her forgotten food. 🙂 I wrote about the joys of our itty bitty town carnival fun earlier this summer. We didn’t pull it off for $10, but I still felt it was worth every penny. Now, if we could just get our kids together to attend one of these fun tiny fairs WITH each other, now, that would be even better! (p.s. I would totally have been riding those rides too! I rode the zoo carousel with my kids one week before G was born. :))

  4. looks like she had such a great time she fell asleep on the way home that is so cute Love the fact that it does not cost a lot to have a night out with the family

  5. I LOVE the county fair…always have, always will. We have an exceptional one where we live now. Some of my favorite memories growing up were making things to enter in the county fair and then going to see what color ribbon I got. It was always such fun!

  6. Definitely got your money’s worth!

That’s so awesome. So glad you had a great time.

    • There are a lot of great deals we miss out on living “in the middle of nowhere” BUT… you can’t beat our local *cheap* entertainment! 🙂
