Homemade Waffles

What makes these homemade waffles (adapted from my hometown church cookbook) fluffy and delicious is the beaten egg whites.  A little extra work?  Maybe. A notch above the rest?  Oh, yes!

My family usually eats them all {ahem} during our favorite breakfast for dinner nights , but even when we don’t, it’s nice to have a few frozen to pop in the toaster during the morning rush.

I love homemade waffles and pancakes! We just had some the other night for dinner as a matter of fact!

  2. Brenda says:

I always beat the whites for waffles too, makes for a fluffier waffle.

  3. Jessica says:

The recipe looks great. I’m slowly trying to use more whole wheat instead of white flour. We’ll see if my hubby notices?!

  4. JessieLeigh says:

This is how I make my waffles too! (Though I confess to using more like half and half on the flours… we’re not quite there yet.) My recipe is very similar although mine has a little vanilla in it. I pretty much like vanilla in anything…;)

    • Amy says:

Vanilla would be good! Shhhh, don’t tell, but I can’t stand real vanilla. Blech. I’m a total “imitation” girl. ;)

  5. Katie says:

I love how you share recipes out of your church cookbook. Those kinds of recipes are my favorites, thanks for sharing!

  6. Annie says:

Is the milk a specific type? We only use skim milk in my household, would that work the same? I have a 12 y.o & 13 y.o and have NEVER made waffles! I have a phobia with my waffle maker! But I am going to try this, this weekend.

  8. Sarah Baker says:

If you make your mix the night before you plan to use pancake and waffle mixes for breakfast they are fluffier. Just an additional tip! These look so good. Gluten-free waffles just. aren’t. the. same. :(

    • Amy says:

I’ve often wondered how far ahead I can make them. I notice the batter getting fluffier even in the 30 minutes it takes me to make all of them!

  9. Matt says:

Based on those pics I never would have thought the waffles had whole wheat flour in them. Do you think the waffles would taste good if I used some sort of substitute instead of the 3 egg yolks?

  10. I just love homemade waffles. I am trying to get better about making things for breakfast as opposed to buy cereal.

  11. Mmmmm…. I want.

  12. Alisa says:

I’ve never really found a waffle recipe I LOVE so I’ll have to try this one out. Maybe in the morning since it’s Spring Break and we don’t have to go anywhere. Thanks for the recipe!

  13. Elaine says:

  14. rene' says:

  15. rene' says:

ooops, so sorry, I just realized I had a typo on my website address in my comment above.

  16. Jennifer Y. says:

I’m more of a pancake girl myself, but these look SO good! I’ve never heard of whipping the egg whites before. I’ll have to file this away… for when I get a waffle iron!

  17. Robyn says:

Aren’t homemade waffles the best? We love them for breakfast and for dinner here!

  18. Mrs. Jen B says:
