Holiday Side Dishes

Don’t forget to visit Food Plus Heat today where Jeff’s serving up Golden-Crusted Brussels Sprouts with Mirepoix for the Bloggy Progressive Dinner.  Confession:  I’ve eaten Brussels Sprouts once in my life, and that was from a Green Giant “Steam and Serve” bag.  Probably not the most full-flavor experience.  ;)

In fact, I know so little about this green veggie that I’ve always thought it was brussel (without the “s”) sprouts!  Clueless. I’m ready to try them again, though, after seeing Jeff’s photo and recipe.  Yum!

As for my own favorite holiday side dish?  Green Bean Bundles. They take a little time, but are so worth it!

What’s your favorite side dish?  And do you enjoy brussel Brussels Sprouts?

  1. Delicious!!

  2. Antoinette says:

wrap asparagus spears in deli ham and secure with a toothpick and then grill…sooooooooooooooo yummy! My hubby made these last night along with steak.

as for brussel sprouts, the only time I’ve liked them is when my MIL makes them :-)

  3. Can’t say that I have ever liked brussel sprouts. I have tried them a handful of times. Now the green bean bundles are the BOMB! :)

  4. I’ve always loved brussels sprouts; perhaps because my Aunt made them every year for Christmas in a crockpot cheesy sauce. Cheese makes everything taste good!

  5. Courtney B. says:

I used to not like them growing up but now I think they are great! Bake on a high heat, just cut them in half and toss with EVOO and salt and pepper and stir them in the oven every 5-10 minutes until roasted and burnt looking. The darker the better they taste!

  6. Brussels sprouts are one of those things that have to be cooked right. Boiled to mush they are nasty…roasted they are delicious. Steamed and sauteed with a little bit of vinegar and a little bit of maple syrup..delicious.

  7. Our family (and kids ages 4 and 2) love brussels sprouts! We started eating them a few years ago and they’re probably our favorite vegetable side dish. We follow an easy recipe from the Barefoot Contessa that includes sauteeing them with bacon and chicken broth and they are the bomb! (We’ve even converted both grandmothers, who grew up with a strong dislike!)
