Ooooo, this could be really interesting! You already know that I pack my kids’ school lunch sometimes, just to up the nutrition factor. It’s a simple case of “the more you know…” for me. I’ve learned too much ick about processed foods, and I want out!
But here’s the thing. Having taught for 8 years, I also know what schools are up against. Budgets, regulations, and a whole lotta red tape. Doing what’s best for kids isn’t easy (or cheap)! Plus, we don’t always agree on what’s best for kids. I’ve gotta appreciate a company that takes steps toward better nutrition, though, and I think I may have stumbled upon one in TruMoo.
Recently launched nationwide, TruMoo is made with fresh white milk from your trusted regional dairy, pure cocoa and table sugar – no high fructose corn syrup. Also, their farmers have pledged to use no artificial growth hormones. Two huge steps forward for chocolate milk, in my humble opinion.
Just in time for the back-to-school season, join us at The Motherhood for a live chat on Wednesday, August 31, at 12:00 CST, to discuss the importance of tasty and healthy school lunches that include nutrient-rich milk. The discussion will be led via live video feed by Andrea Carrothers, MS, RD and Nutrition Communications Manager at Dean Foods (she’ll be live on video; I’ll NOT be on video… and likely will be typing between chasing my crazy baby/toddler).
Come to ask and answer questions, tell us which health-conscious foods your kids love and exchange ideas for school lunches, after-school snacks or breakfast before you and the kids hit the door! (I can’t wait to ask some “real food” questions just to see what she has to say!)
Disclosure: I’m being compensated by the Motherhood for my post and participation in the chat. All opinions about chocolate milk, school lunches, and real food remain my own.
