I almost hate to start this before Halloween, but you know you’re thinking about it, so let’s have some fun, shall we? I’m partnering with Jen from Saving & Giving as we share some of our favorite products for babies, kids, adults, and the home. If Jen hasn’t used and loved it, I have, and if neither of us has, then one of us wants to give it a try! We’ll also have some fun giveaways along the way.
Today we’re sharing our favorite gifts for babies.
Melissa & Doug. You really can’t go wrong with their stuff, right? With the Toolbox Fill and Spill, baby can chew on it now and ‘fix’ things as he gets bigger.
Enables your baby to maintain a sitting position on the floor, allowing you to play with, read to, and feed your baby. I borrowed a Bumbo from my sister for baby #4. While not essential by any means, it was fun for the little guy, who wasn’t quite ready to sit on his own but still wanted to be part of the action!
We love these books at our house! The textures fascinate little ones, and as they grow (and hear the book repeated over, and over, and over!) babies and toddlers start to “read” the short descriptions themselves. So cute! “That’s not my lion, his mane is too shaggy…”
We use our ceiling fans for white noise, but even I sleep better with them! Jen’s little one has always slept better with white noise, too. This one has 12 sounds to choose from plus an MP3 player plug-in port and nightlight.
5. Baby Wrap, Carrier or Sling
Pictured is the K’tan, which I’m still trying to get my hands on. (I hear it wears like a Moby but without all the fabric.) I only started using them with our third baby, but I now consider a baby wrap, sling, or carrier essential. Perhaps because I seem to have fewer hands the more children we have? I really like my Moby, especially in the early days when baby is still all folded up and just wants to be close. I covet the Ergo, and am hopeful to have one by summertime to haul our little one around at baseball and softball games.
Want to know a secret? I don’t know if I ever put food in this little jewel, but it was one of my favorite items with Baby #4! Ice, ice, baby. (and my sincere apologies to those of you old enough to now be singing, er, rapping) My little guy loved to gnaw on frozen items through this mesh feeder, and it was super easy to refill when we were out and about.
Jen’s Emma starting using this chair (reclined) as a newborn and sat in it to read books as a toddler. This is another great grow-with-me gift that little ones will use for years.
Confession: After five babies, I still stink at swaddling. This swaddling blanket with velcro would be handy for sleep-deprived parents who want their baby to nod off and remain cozy. Loose blankets aren’t recommended for little ones, but the velcro keeps the SwaddleMe closed.
Truth? I’m much too practical for fun gifts like this. Another truth? I wish I wasn’t! What a fun way to make a sweet momento of baby’s handprints for the first five years.
10. Car Seat Canopy
We’re using a handmade Car Seat Canopy for our newest baby, and I’ve found it to be both pretty and practical. It keeps our little one cozy, and the two-sided design is entertaining for baby eyes. Little Sweet Pea, Inc. offers diaper clutches and fabric flower hairbands in addition to the canopies.
11. Taggie Blanket
How cute and clever is the Taggie Blanket?! Babies and toddlers love to play with and look at all of the different colors and textures. Taggies are great to take on the go and the perfect size to stuff in a diaper bag. My friend Amy from Amy’s Monkeys makes taggies, aprons, all sorts of fun and functional bags, and other baby items.
In the spirit of baby gift giving, Amy’s Monkeys is offering one of my readers a Taggie Blanket of your choice! Also, Little Sweet Pea, Inc. is giving one of you a diaper clutch and fabric flower headband from their shop. If you’re looking to support small businesses this Christmas as you shop for the littlest ones in your life, I can vouch for the quality products these ladies make.
