Gifts for Babies ~ 2012 Christmas Gift Guide {and a giveaway}

I almost hate to start this before Halloween, but you know you’re thinking about it, so let’s have some fun, shall we?  I’m partnering with Jen from Saving & Giving as we share some of our favorite products for babies, kids, adults, and the home.  If Jen hasn’t used and loved it, I have, and if neither of us has, then one of us wants to give it a try!  We’ll also have some fun giveaways along the way.

Today we’re sharing our favorite gifts for babies.

1.  Melissa & Doug Toolbox Fill and Spill

Melissa & Doug.  You really can’t go wrong with their stuff, right?  With the Toolbox Fill and Spill, baby can chew on it now and ‘fix’ things as he gets bigger.

2.  Bumbo Floor Seat

Enables your baby to maintain a sitting position on the floor, allowing you to play with, read to, and feed your baby. I borrowed a Bumbo from my sister for baby #4.  While not essential by any means, it was fun for the little guy, who wasn’t quite ready to sit on his own but still wanted to be part of the action!

3.  Usborne Touchy Feely Books

We love these books at our house!  The textures fascinate little ones, and as they grow (and hear the book repeated over, and over, and over!) babies and toddlers start to “read” the short descriptions themselves.  So cute!  “That’s not my lion, his mane is too shaggy…”

4.  Graco Sweet Slumber Sound Machine

We use our ceiling fans for white noise, but even I sleep better with them!  Jen’s little one has always slept better with white noise, too.  This one has 12 sounds to choose from plus an MP3 player plug-in port and nightlight.

5.  Baby Wrap, Carrier or Sling

Pictured is the K’tan, which I’m still trying to get my hands on.  (I hear it wears like a Moby but without all the fabric.)  I only started using them with our third baby, but I now consider a baby wrap, sling, or carrier essential.  Perhaps because I seem to have fewer hands the more children we have?  I really like my Moby, especially in the early days when baby is still all folded up and just wants to be close.  I covet the Ergo, and am hopeful to have one by summertime to haul our little one around at baseball and softball games.

6.  Munchkin Fresh Food Feeder

Want to know a secret?  I don’t know if I ever put food in this little jewel, but it was one of my favorite items with Baby #4!  Ice, ice, baby.  (and my sincere apologies to those of you old enough to now be singing, er, rapping)  My little guy loved to gnaw on frozen items through this mesh feeder, and it was super easy to refill when we were out and about.

7. Fisher Price Infant to Toddler Rocker

Jen’s Emma starting using this chair (reclined) as a newborn and sat in it to read books as a toddler.  This is another great grow-with-me gift that little ones will use for years.

8. Kiddopotamus SwaddleMe Microfleece Blanket

Confession:  After five babies, I still stink at swaddling.  This swaddling blanket with velcro would be handy for sleep-deprived parents who want their baby to nod off and remain cozy.  Loose blankets aren’t  recommended for little ones, but the velcro keeps the SwaddleMe closed.

9. Tower of Time Kit

Truth?  I’m much too practical for fun gifts like this.  Another truth?  I wish I wasn’t!  What a fun way to make a sweet momento of baby’s handprints for the first five years.

10.  Car Seat Canopy

We’re using a handmade Car Seat Canopy for our newest baby, and I’ve found it to be both pretty and practical.  It keeps our little one cozy, and the two-sided design is entertaining for baby eyes.  Little Sweet Pea, Inc. offers diaper clutches and fabric flower hairbands in addition to the canopies.

11.  Taggie Blanket

How cute and clever is the Taggie Blanket?!  Babies and toddlers love to play with and look at all of the different colors and textures.  Taggies are great to take on the go and the perfect size to stuff in a diaper bag.  My friend Amy from Amy’s Monkeys makes taggies, aprons, all sorts of fun and functional bags, and other baby items.

Giveaway

In the spirit of baby gift giving, Amy’s Monkeys is offering one of my readers a Taggie Blanket of your choice!  Also, Little Sweet Pea, Inc. is giving one of you a diaper clutch and fabric flower headband from their shop.  If you’re looking to support small businesses this Christmas as you shop for the littlest ones in your life, I can vouch for the quality products these ladies make.

I am having our 3rd child right before Christmas and I was thinking about maybe having something for him under the tree. The taggie blanket at Amy’s Monkeys looks perfect! I’ve never had one of these for our kiddos and always have wanted one.

  2. I can vouch for those Swaddle blankets. They ROCK! Taggies are great too. :-) My mom makes them – and my 3 year old still sleeps with hers!

  7. I love the red fabric flower rosette! I tend to pick more and more and pink for my little girl and when she wears her red clothes I have limited hair choices..this would be fun!

  8. After much deliberation I would pick a handled bag from Amy’s monkeys. Something for me!!

I just had my 3rd baby girl and I love the triple pink and green fabric flower headband.

We have two new grandsons this year, one born in March and the other in August. I am trying to come up with gifts for them this Christmas.
I liked the holiday aprons from Amy’s Monkeys and the carrier covers from Little Sweet Pea, Inc. Just need to figure out which one.

  18. Thanks for the gift ideas. I got some great suggestions from this.

I like the blue and brown fabric headband for baby. I’d love to win!

  19. At Amy’s Monkeys I really like the Bible covers that she makes. I like Little Sweet Pea’s headbands, even though I don’t have any girls.

  20. My cousin made a taggie blanket for my son 10 years ago before they were everywhere and it quickly became “the” blanket. In fact, he still sleeps with it today. So, yes, that would make a great baby gift! I don’t have any babies on my gift list this year, so you can keep my name out of the drawing…I just wanted to let everyone know how great this blanket it.

  21. The taggie blanket! My little guy loves tags on toys, and I know he’d love all those little ribbon tags :) Thanks for the suggestions! I want one of those mesh things for ice now!

And, by the way, I got to try out a Baby K’tan and wrote about it as compared to the Moby (http://www.savingbymaking.com/2012/08/baby-ktan/). I love a lot of things about it, and it’s definitely faster to put on than the Moby. The biggest drawback is that for my heavy baby, it’s not quite as supportive if I wear it for a long time. I’ll email my contact person and suggest you as a reviewer too ;)

  22. From Sweet Pea, the car seat canopy. I might need to make one if and when we get a newborn.

Amy, if you didn’t get a taggie blanket elsewhere, I’ve got Hobby Lobby on my list for fabric for Pookie #5. How big, what colors?

  23. I really like the wacky robots burp clothes.

  24. I love the Pink and Brown headband from Little Sweet Pea :)

  33. Where do I begin?!? I love so many of the things!! However we just had our 3rd and I would love the white noise maker!! The ceiling fans are nice but with the construction outside our home…this would be great!

  40. Baby K’tans are amazing! I consider them a must have for little babies! They’re so much easier to put on than a Moby Wrap and easy for on the go. Weston was always in the K’tan when we were running errands when he was itty bitty since this mama couldn’t manage to carry a heavy car seat and hold on to my toddler {plus, I much prefer holding my babies than leaving them in car seats…}

And, I sold my Ergo for a Boba which is more comfortable on my petite frame…you may want to look into a Boba since you’re petite.

And the hooded baby towels from Amy’s Monkeys are wonderful…we have 2!

  41. I love the robot burp cloths! It seems like no matter how many we have, it’s never enough when it comes to burp cloths… I swear we have a gnome that steals them (along with single socks).

  42. Kristy G. says:

Have a sweet nephew who would love the ABC taggie book from Amy’s. Also love the pink and grey rosette bands from Little Sweet Pea!
