Fireproof Your Marriage

As an early 10th anniversary gift, I promised Lance I would throw any scheduling out the window for our weekend getaway.  I lied.  Never an advocate for lying to your spouse (especially when celebrating 10 years of marriage), I had to make an exception to my rule.  The first thing I did when we got to the hotel (um, the second thing… after checking out our jacuzzi 😉   ) was to call the movie theater hotline to see when Fireproof was showing.

You see, it’s been at least 2 1/2 years, yes… years, since we’ve seen a movie in an actual movie theater.  It may be more like three years, or more… but our life before Tiny Town (we moved here 2 1/2 years ago) is quickly becoming a blur.  Funny thing, this sad statistic didn’t bother me in the least (there’s not much out there that I’d fork over a $7.00 matinee ticket for… and, by the way, when did it become $7.00 to watch a matinee?  good grief!) until Fireproof came out.  I wanted to see that movie, and I wanted to see it in a theater!  So, the one scheduled weekend event was a trip to see Fireproof.

We were not disappointed.  Although (praise God!) we walked into the theater with a strong marriage, Fireproof inspired us to put forth the effort it takes to demonstrate our unfailing love to each other and to be bold in sharing it.  To be bold in sharing the source of our love; our foundation.  And it reminded us that seemingly small, insignificant negative actions and words can build up to marital disaster.

Watching the couple interact at the beginning of the movie was painful.  It reminded me that I take for granted the solid foundation on which our marriage is built.  The going got tough in this movie… very tough; but love, true love based on the One who gave everything for love, wins.  Love wins! How encouraging is that?!?

All this to say, going to see Fireproof really worked for me!  I am proud to support this excellent film, its actors, directors and producers.  Hooray for them for bucking the system and making a quality movie worth paying to see.  Here’s how you can support Fireproof:

  • If you haven’t already, go see Fireproof.  Maybe during the long Thanksgiving weekend some of you will have extra relatives around who would love to babysit!  It is money and time well spent.
  • Buy the DVD when it comes out on January 27, or pre-order it.  I’m thinking it would make a fun Valentine’s Day gift.
  • Visit fireproofmymarriage.com and check out the amazing resources for your marriage and for you to share with others.
  • Download Fireproof widgets, web banners or icons to show your support of this movie on your blog.
  • Tell your friends about Fireproof and the impact it had on you.  You never know who might need to hear about this movie.

  1. We loved it too! We have the love dare book and we are loving it. We haven’t been faithful to do it everyday lately with the holidays and all but I TOTALLY agree it was a great movie and like you i thank God that I have an awesome marriage and don’t need to take it for granted. BTW I love your blog. If you don’t mind praying too I never battled infertlity but I had a m/c before my daughter who is 2.5 and just found out I am expecting again! We are soooo excited and I keep telling Satan not to let the fear grip me b/c i have had a m/c. I know you are christian and want as many people as i know praying for tiny tot to be healthy. 🙂 You don’t have to publish this. This was more of an email to you. 🙂

  2. I loved Fireproof. I scheduled my aunt to babysit and headed out for a “date day” with 2 gift certificates that we have been hanging on to for a LONG time. I had tissues and napkins in my pocket and oh boy did we need them! (Notice I said WE… oh wait I think there might have been something in his eye *wink, wink*)

  3. I loved this movie but if you can believe it, I saw it with my girlfriends and my DH still hasn’t seen it! We rarely make it to the theater either so we may have to wait for it to come out on DVD to see it together. I’m looking forward to it though. 🙂

  4. We haven’t seen it yet, so thanks for the reminder to check our little local theater! Sometimes it takes a while for movies to make it to our neck of the woods.

Lauren, I’m praying for God’s hand of protection around your tiny tot.

  5. I really want to see this movie! I can’t believe it is coming out on January 27. Isn’t that quick? I will definitely be purchasing that ASAP! Have a happy Thanksgiving!

  6. Hey – my name’s Amy and I’m married to a Lance! I did a double take when I read that. I forgot that I wanted to see this movie. Thanks for the reminder!

  7. I’ve written about this quite a bit! We’ve been through some really rough times and it’s a blessing to me to see how much this impacted my husband!

We even got to go to the satellite simulcast a few weeks ago!

  8. I have heard soooo many great things about this movie. I can’t wait to see it! 😀

  9. I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I have read the book. It’s awesome! Is anyone doing the 40 day love dare?

  10. I love posts like this. Anything about somebody who want to improve their marriage, especially when it’s already good. Thanks for taking the time to post about this in detail. This is good work for the Kingdom!
