Finer Things This Week

The tagline of this blog has long been Embracing the Extraordinary in Every Day.  I know I post on much more than that, but I like to thread the theme through as much as I can, because I truly do believe that’s where the joy resides ~ in the every day!  One of my blogging goals this year is to share more of our every day, so I’m going to be more intentional about that in these Finer Things Friday posts.  Two birds, one stone and all.  ;)

First of all, life’s too short for matching socks.

Also?  This little baby is fast becoming a little girl and playmate!  How is this happening so quickly?! (asks the mom who has been there done that five times over and it goes faster every time!)  Her brother thinks he’s “so much bigger” and wants to hold her and rock her.  But then he gets mad when she plays with his blocks.  It has begun!

Documenting my husband (and his ~ ahem ~ help) saving us boatloads of money.  A Finer Thing, for sure!  I was tempted to crop out the kitchen chaos, but figured you wouldn’t mind the mess created when the kitchen sink is out of order for 20 hours…

I’m so grateful to be married to a man who doesn’t mind hard work, dirty work, and “let’s try it and see what happens” work!  He rocks!

What Finer Things are you celebrating this week?  Did any of you have the wacky winter mid-April weather that we experienced in Kansas?  Yesterday we still had spots of white in the yard from the ice/sleet earlier in the week, and our kids were playing in short sleeves.  Bizarre!

  1. We have had crazy weather here too! Last week we had snow and this week we were in the 90′s. I hated to do it, but I had to turn on the air. We were all getting cranky from being so hot. And I am celebrating my little girl finally feeling better after having a double ear infection for over a week!
    Happy Friday, Amy!

  2. This week I also am grateful for and celebrating my husband who is willing to try fixing most anything around the house. This week, he stayed up until midnight, then got up at 4am the next morning – all to install a new water heater so that I wouldn’t have to miss a hot shower. Now if that isn’t love and a finer thing, I’m not sure what is!

  3. I must admit (and yes, this was funny at the time…at least I thought it was) that I can be a bit of a ditz at times…ok most of the time…but one time my hubby who can fix anything, has built an airplane that he actually flew in and a house we lived in while the wee ones grew up…whew I think this is a run on sentence…was under the sink and drained uncky gunky stuff from the sink into a bucket and then told me to dump it out. Yesireee, I sure did, right back into the sink in his face. Well isn’t that where you always dump water you don’t want anymore. For some reason he did not see the humor in this act of thoughtlessness on my part. But you have to admit it was kind of funny. Poor guy.

  4. A tornado hit one street over, on Wednesday. We had minor damage and loss of power for awhile, but we are all fine. We are so thankful that our community didn’t have any deaths, just property damage.

  5. We too had to break down and turn on the air conditioner this week to find out that it isn’t working. This is a positive because this wacky weather means only a couple of warm days to live without AC knowing the weather is only getting cooler as I type. This allows us the opportunity to get it fixed before spending days without AC in our hot and humid summertime climate.

  6. My 2.5 yo boy and 7 mo girl are the best of friends. And when Owen runs over to his crying sister, bends down, pats her head and says, “It’s okay Allison, Owen’s here!” my heart just melts. However, he still doesn’t want to share his carrot shaped golf club.

  7. Socks r suppose to match?

    • You know, I thought that was the SILLIEST thing when A started wearing hers that way. But mom, you’re supposed to! And now… my own socks don’t often match. Ha! (You know I’m such a rebel, right?) ;)
