Last night I got an email from Laura: “Okeedokee…if it’s still okay with you, I’ll come by in the morning sometime!!!” (Random fact: It’s totally Laura’s fault that I’m blogging.)
My reply: “Woot! (Well… if it’s okay with you that my house may be a bit of a disaster. Don’t look at my floors. Or my desk. Or my dust. Or my windows.) Ha!”
Laura lives in Nebraska, and I’ve been waiting not so patiently for her to get back to her stompin’ grounds and squeeze my new baby boy. Sensing my urgency
Laura made time in her fly-by Kansas trip to visit for a couple hours.
So here comes Laura at 8:30 this morning! Yay, but ohmygosh I only just got the laundry put away and got dressed! I promptly hand her my freshly-nursed baby so I could get myself some breakfast. She followed me into my messy kitchen. Gah! I showed her my stash of Vanilla Beans (now I just need some vodka). We sat and chatted. The baby spit up most of his breakfast onto her sweater and jeans. And we talked blogging.
Of course.
She went to show me some fancy new plugin on her site, and… we got a database error. Blogger nightmare; Heavenly Homemakers was down! I promptly handed over my laptop and Laura spent the better part of the next 2 hours chatting with her host and trying to get the site back up.
As that happened, my dad called offering to bring some lunch. Great idea, but I don’t want him to walk in on my messy house and tattle on me to my mom. HA!
So here we are, Laura and me… haven’t seen each other since May… she’s on the computer and I’m sweeping floors and doing dishes.

I gave her a chocolate potato chip to ease the stress.
We just laughed. As far as I’m concerned, it was a Finer Things morning. You know you’re real friends when…
What Finer Things are you celebrating this week? Link up and let us know! Please use your permalink and leave a link back here so others can join in the fun.

I don’t know about you, but I think that Flexi-Clip in her hair is simply gorgeous!
Oh, believe me, we discussed the flexi-clips.
Glad you had some good time with a sweet friend – yes, you’re right, you know you’re real friends when … you can totally be yourself!
I’m celebrating the finer thing of getting to spend a little more time with my four-legged pal Brandy Lucille. She’s a soon-to-be 12yr. old bassett who I’ve raised alongside my soon-to-be 15yr. old son. We found out this week that she has leukemia and thought she was lost to us, but, praise God, we have a little more time to do projects alongside each other, chores, or just sit on the porch together. More time with a much-loved pet? Definitely a finer thing.
Oh, my. We lost both of our dogs this year. I do know what you’re talking about!
It’s so nice to have a friend that doesn’t mind if your house is messy
I chuckled at your post above, but not for the obvious reasons. Yesterday I had the “house is a mess, DH is injured, toddler is cranky day” and somewhere in the middle I decided I was going to make my vanilla extract (http://thrivingmama.charityscrafts.com/?p=2280) – and sure enough Heavenly Homemakers was down when I went for directions. I’m glad Laura got it back up
Oh my word, that is hilarious! My vanilla beans are still sitting on my counter. Must take care of those!
Sounds like life! It’s good to have real friends!
Ha! I love it! Life happens, and the best friends are the ones that see it happening… and appreciate it.
That IS a good friend:-)
I think true friends are the ones that walk into your house, ignore the mess and join in whatever you’re doing or need. No need to spit-clean every room or bring out the china tea cups. You pick up where the conversation ended a year ago. What a nice visit for both of you!
Good friends are the best! A good friend would barely notice the house because their focus would be on their friend.
This week I am sharing my Beef Mushroom Soup. It’s great, and it’s even better the next day!
Thanks for hosting!
It’s great to have friends that will be there when you need them and that you can be for when they need you!
What a true friend. I am still on the look-out for true friends {my family is the closest thing right now, but its just not the same} but I am confident that God is working in me
. Have a blessed day.
Yes. I just wish she didn’t live 5 hours away!
That is the most fun thing EVER. I love bloggers!
Thanks for hosting!!
Thank you for hosting this linkup!
Aw, I’m SO glad Laura was at YOUR house when she discovered her site was down. You knew to just hand over the laptop, and remind her to breathe. (and the chocolate was a good idea too!!)
Oh my goodness, what a mess that was! I felt terrible for her, but we had to laugh… you know.
The funniest thing was when she emailed me later in the day saying that the very thing we went on her site to see in the first place was the likely cause of all the trouble. Whoops!
This week’s sharing is my recipe for aloo matar – curried potatoes and peas. It’s our way of enjoying the food served at the local Indian restaurant (the finer things) in a frugal fashion – since we make it ourselves with simple ingredients.
