Finer Things Friday: woosh, woosh, woosh, woosh, woosh

finer things friday Finer Things Friday: woosh, woosh, woosh, woosh, woosh

Six years ago we miscarried a baby at 11 weeks.  Time heals, but a mama heart never forgets. We hadn’t had our first pre-natal appointment yet, and never did hear a heartbeat.

I knew I wouldn’t rest until Monday.  I never do.  Especially in the pregnancies since the miscarriage.  That’s why we told no one (almost) about this baby, even though my first trimester had pretty much passed.  The Finest sound I’ve heard in the last 2 months?  The woosh, woosh, woosh of our 13-week-old baby’s heartbeat!

In my weakness, it’s hard not to doubt.

What Finer Things are you celebrating this week?  Link up and let us know!  Please follow the rules and visit other links if you can.

That is so great, I am so happy for you!

And, P.S. When I was pregnant with my daughter, I would secretly panic every time the doctor was about to listen for the heartbeat, afraid he would hear nothing. I breathed a sigh of relief every time. It really is one of the most beautiful sounds. : )

Keeping you and your little one in our prayers for the next several months :)

Congrats! I know exactly how you feel. I had a miscarriage with baby #1 pretty much exactly 6 years ago. We are missionaries in Mexico so my first prenatal appointment was here in Mexico. It was already scary enough but when he did not find a heartbeat it was extremely difficult. (We had only been in Mexico for 7 months.) God has blessed us with 2 boys (almost 5 and 20 months) and I am 14 weeks pregnant with #3. I think it’s also harder for me to enjoy the early part of pregnancy because of the miscarriage. Every little thing scares me. I have had 2 ultrasounds so far and it is so awesome to see a little life growing inside of me. (http://bit.ly/9Gt693) It will be exciting to hear more about your pregnancy since we are so close!

My very first pregnancy, 8 years ago, was a miscarriage and I had those same doubts and worries up until I heard the heartbeat for the first time with each of our three children. It is definitely a finer thing to finally get to hear that precious heartbeat!

Congrats again! So happy for you!

I am so happy for you. I was wondering how far along you were. I have been through 4 miscarriages, so I know exactly what you mean. The last one was very hard because I lost almost 4 pints of blood. It was very hard, but I was able to have my little guy after that. I am so thankful for each of my children, and having been through those losses makes me appreciate a good pregnancy even more. Take care and enjoy the next 6 months.

Amy that is absolutely a Finer Thing in Life!!! I agree Alyssa, that is a sound you will never forget. My first child was born in Germany, so I also had the opportunity to see her every visit as they did an ultrasound every time, that was 17 years ago and I still remember it.

Congratulations!!! I also lost a baby 6 yrs ago, and around the same gestational age. I know the heart ache and fears that go with it. (It was our 2nd in less then 5 mths.) We are thankful for the 3 boys we now have. But I still hold my babies in my heart!!!

I definitely know that feeling–the doubt and the joy. We waited until almost 15 weeks to tell most everybody with our youngest since we had an ultrasound scheduled. It was just easier to have a lot of answers for all the questions.

A HUGE congratulations to your family! God is so good.

i understand…having a m/c i really appricate the blessing of healthy babies. I will be praying for you….i know it’s not the most frugal thing but i rented a doppler for those times of worry with both of mine. the $25/mo was worth my piece of mind when satan would tempt me. Just thought i would pass that along. :)

My husband and I have lost two babies in the last two years – one at 28wks and one at 20wks. We are now 17 wks pregnant. I know exactly how you are feeling. Each doctor appointment I hold my breath. My prayers and thoughts are with you!

Oh, Michelle. I’ll be praying fervently for you in the next several weeks! I just wrote your name down so I won’t forget. Even though I’ve “been there” with the miscarriage, I still can’t imagine losing a baby that far along.

So pleased for you. What an honor to be chosen again.

When our 2 1/2 year old heard the sound of our newest’s heartbeat she said the baby was playing drums inside mama’s belly :) Our then 13 month old just repeated the sound over and over. Hearing the heartbeat is definitely a finer thing.

Congrats again!

I just wanted to say thank you so much for that post! I recently experienced a miscarriage with my husband and my first pregnancy. It was so hard, and a lot of blame and pressure on myself and what I could have done and should have done. But the love that was developed for that little one (even though we never got to see the baby actually arrive) will always be there. Thank you so much for reminding us all about the finest things.

Reply

52 Amy March 25, 2010 at 3:10 pm

I’m so sorry to hear that, Amy. I think all too often miscarriages get swept under the rug. But not for a mama heart. That’s MY BABY! So much uncertainty and worry, too. I pray that you heal physically and emotionally and that you’ll be blessed again with another baby.

Congratulations! I am 11 weeks pregnant with baby #3 and am a nervous wreck. I am hoping to hear the heartbeat at my appointment on Thursday and won’t feel at peace until then. I have to admit that I panicked a little when I read that you had lost a baby at 11 weeks. I am glad to hear that all is well and look forward to going through this experience with you and the other pregnant readers that are due around the same time! How exciting!!
