Tuesday we had one of those days.
First grader arrives home from school. Kids unanimously decide it’s a great day for the park. First grader calls a friend to join us. Kids grab bikes. I grab wagon and two-year-old. And snacks. We head to said friend’s house to pick her up on the way. Kids ride ahead, slowing at empty intersections. Two-year-old and I get behind, slowing to chat with neighbors as we go. Kids play at the playground. I get my mile in around the walking path. We head home. Frozen yogurt snacks are distributed. Friend stays for snacks and to play in the clubhouse (under an old cedar tree in a neighbor’s yard). Other friends are spotted across the street. They join. Everyone returns to our yard. Happy chasing and tag games ensue. Friend #1 is escorted home by older neighbor boy. Friends #2′s mom yells across the street that it’s time for supper. Everyone scatters. Supper is served.
Whew!
Told ya it was one of those days. One of those days that we’ve dreamed of for our children. One of those days that we hoped for when we moved to Tiny Town nearly 4 years ago. One of those days that leaves us smiling and sweaty and worn out from the Finer Things in life. Just one of those days.

Amy, That’s just awesome that your kids have such great friends around to play with! And isn’t it great that our weather has gotten better so the kids can be outside?
Thanks for hosting!
~Liz

P.S. I tagged you in a photo meme if you’d like to play.

That sounds like a wonderful, one of those days.
Oh that is a finer thing!!
Love the warmer weather although windy!
Thank you for hosting!
What a lovely afternoon in a small town! And what better than an afternoon with friends to tired out the kiddos so Prego Mama has a relaxed, low key evening!
Thank you for sharing – and for hosting!

Amy,
Aloha! I am a first time visitor to your blog and love it!
Wow, your day sounds so familiar to me! My kids are a little older than yours, but we still get to experience the happy exhaustion that comes from family and community enjoyment!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Oh I love carefree days like that, when everything flows, and the kids all get along and have fun, and the moms are happy and life is good!
Thanks for hosting Finer Things…I am new here today…coming over from Moms Sharpening Moms. Thanks for hosting this lovely idea!
What a picture perfect afternoon! Those are the kind to write home about!
May you have many more of them.

That is so sweet and brings back so, so many memories. We used to live on a dead end street in a bungalow home. There were times when my kids were younger we would literally haved 35-40 kids playing at our house in the yard…and come dinner time they scattered. Thanks for sharing your finer thing!
We don’t have 35-40 kids in our whole town, but we make do.
Can’t wait to see what everyone’s been up to this week!
Oh, I almost got misty reading about such a perfect day. This is the kind of life I yearn for… in Indiana, I was too far from any neighbors and was lonely. Here? Everyone seems to be caught up in a lot of pricey activities… Your description reminds me of the summer days I spend visiting my cousins in an itty bitty Wisconsin town. Perfect! Thanks for painting such a beautiful picture…
I can show you three different houses in town tomorrow…
I love it! Thanks so much for sharing and for being so positive. This is exactly what I want for my family!!
I love days like that! Happy Friday to you and your family Amy.

That Tuesday afternoon sounds just perfect! What a wonderful life! Thanks for hosting this fun party on Fridays – so fun to see what everyone’s been up to!
Oh I remember those FINE days when my 4 kids were young and we were the ‘koolaid’ house on the street. What a great memory of a yard full of kids. Good things to look forward to…when they become teenagers, the friends start staying for dinner. I love it when we have to hunt down extra chairs for dinner (but miss those days in the front yard!)
What a wonderful way to spend the day!
Aww, what a perfect day! It sounds like your kids are going to have a childhood full of good memories to look back on someday.
I want to raise my children in that environment; in fact, I recently posted about where my husband and I will “retire,” when the Marine Corps isn’t telling us where to go anymore. I’d love to be in community with others who are pursuing the same goals and lifestyle. One day.
That does sound like a perfect day:-)
How blessed! I wish I had had this as a child. I don’t want to have children, but I would hope for this ability of friendly neighborhood, nearby, safety for all children!
What a perfect day. I yearn for the day moy kids can have that. That was my days growing up. I hope one day my kids get to experience it, now we are in a big city, Yuck!
New here and my first time to participate in your Finer Things Friday. I’ve already checked out a couple blogs. Thanks for hosting. This is cool. (And your day sounds perfect, I love those days too)
Amy, that does sound like a great day!! How exciting to see so many link ups to Finer Things Friday!! Congrats! It is fun to see how much it has grown.
Wow! You are so blessed! I long for a town and neighborhood like that for my children. Thanks for sharing!
That definitely sounded like a simply perfect fun day.
