Finer Things Friday: Not at Blissdom

There’s a part of me that really wants to be in Nashville with some of my blogging friends right now at the Blissdom Conference.  I was there last year, and had such a fabulous time!

This year my family needs me at home, and truthfully, travel with an almost 5 month old baby doesn’t sound all that exciting, especially when I apparently can’t even prepare for an hour of church.  😉

So, I’m missing out.  But had I gone, I would have missed my husband’s basketball win tonight and our daughter’s rec basketball game Saturday.  I would have had to reschedule the baby’s baptism on Sunday, and my dental work this morning. (oh, joy)  I wouldn’t have been here to say goodbye to my beloved 9 year old yellow lab yesterday as we had to put her down due to cancer.{sob}

Countless preparations have to be made when mom leaves for a bit, and quite frankly, I have a hard time getting all the dishes and laundry done at the end of the day right now!

To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven…

For me, for now, this is an at-home season.  I’m good with that.  Home is definitely a Finer Thing!

What Finer Things are you celebrating this week? Link up and let us know!  And have you ever been to a blog conference?  I’d love to meet you at one sometime!

  1. Thanks for the reminder. I’ve been a little down about not going to Blissdom (I’m only 2 1/2 hours away), but right now it would be impossible to leave my family. Being at home and caring for them is a Finer Thing!

  2. I have a 6 month old and a 5 year old and 9 year old. I know what you mean. I have wanted to go to several blogger conferences and haven’t made one yet. Some day!

  3. So sorry for the loss of your dog! We lost our dog of 13 years a few weeks ago — so hard!

  4. Amy, I’m sorry you didn’t get to go… I’m hoping to go to Relevent this year, but for the same reasons you mentioned, I may be staying home. We’ll see what happens between now and then!

    I’m sorry about your lab, too. We are lab-lovers here as well. We just got a second yellow lab a few months ago, and our first yellow lab passed away the Sunday after Thanksgiving. We were heartbroken, but comforted by knowing he was nearly 11 years old and had lived a very full life.

    We’ll keep your family in our prayers this week. xoxo

  5. All excellent reasons for not attending Blissdom and yet I can feel your heart tugs at not being there. Putting your beloved lab down resonated with me. I am glad you could be there and with your family when you put your fur family member down. Just think that your fur baby is over the rainbow bridge romping like a puppy again. We were puppy raisers for Leader Dogs For The Blind this year and it broke my heart to give Abby a yellow lab back so she could do her oh so important job. We then got LuLu a black lab puppy. She died tragically and inexplicably while being spayed. Now we have Maggie and I am in love yet afraid to give my heart. Three labs is a lot of love given in just over a year. I feel your pain for sure. {{{{{Amy}}}}}

  6. So sorry to hear about your dog!

  7. So sorry to hear about your dog. My condolescenses.

  8. I’ve never been to a blogging conference & I have such mixed feelings abotu that. I love the idea of being there, but I hate the idea of NOT being HERE! My little one isn’t even 1.5 yet. I’ve never been away from her over night and I just don’t know how I would manage that.

    However, my husband tried to buy me a ticket to Relevant11 for Christmas. They weren’t on sale yet though. So…. I’m not sure if I’m gonna let him get me a ticket or not…. What to do… what to do???

  9. Oh, I’m so sorry you had to put your dog down. That is a very hard and sad thing to do.

  10. Isn’t it amazing how God works all things out if we let him. I couldn’t have predicted the fall/winter we’ve had. I am pretty home bound right now but He just cleared my activities so that it isn’t too stressful. So sorry that you had to put your dog down. That is one of the toughest decisions to make.

  11. I have never been. I hear it is awesome.

  12. You definitely made the right choice. So sorry about your dog. 🙁
    Are you following the conference on Twitter? Though sometimes that makes it worse….

    Will you be going to the SB Summit again this year? I’m still on the fence- it was a great experience, but I’m not sure I can justify the $ again…

    Enjoy your weekend!

    • I’m right there with you! Had a great time at the summit and learned a lot, but don’t know if I can do the $$$. Plus, I’d have to have the baby with me, and he’ll be 10 months old. Not a very easy “sitting still” age. HA!

  13. So sorry to hear about your dog!

  14. My teens and I celebrated the end of their exams today with a fine Greek salad. Yummy! It’s amazing how a year ago we would have celebrated with ice cream but this morning we took pleasure in picking out the nicest veggies at our local market.
    I’m so sorry to hear about your dog. We’ve lost two dogs and my farmer hubby doesn’t want another one. I was able to attend the Relevant Conference last year and had an amazing time. Don’t think I’ll be going this year, as I’m praying that I will be able to home school my younger two by that point.

  15. Although I’m new to the whole bloggy world and know little about it, I’m always encouraged about what you write. I know you made the right decision about deciding not to go :).

  16. Just sending sympathy on the loss of your sweet pooch – always so hard – they’re such a blessing and so hard to let go!

    Glad there were some bright spots during these last few days

  17. After hearing about Blissdom WAY TOO MUCH last year from all of my favorite bloggers (not you– didn’t find you until recently!), I’m thrilled that everyone has toned it down a notch. I’m sure it’s great, but I’m so glad it’s not all consuming this year!!!!!!!!!!
