Last Sunday we were settling in for the night after a full day of visiting family, a birthday party, and a trip to the farm. Two of three children were up late, and two of two parents were exhausted. Then it hit.
The lightening. The clouds. The radar and weatherman that warned “All residents of Tiny Town to take immediate tornado precautions.”
That particular night our cluttered, filthy (embarrassing!) basement didn’t matter. Giggly kiddos at 10:00 on a school night didn’t matter. We had a safe place to go, just in case. And a little late-night family bonding? It’s a Finer Thing.

I’m glad you are all safe and I’m also glad I’m not the only one with a messy basement
Thanks for hosting!

My basement is definitely one room in my house you will NEVER see pics of!
How scary when those thunderstorm / tornado warnings hit. So nice to see you & your family are safe and sound. Also, how beautiful that you can appreciate the wonderful bonding moment given the circumstance.
Hi Amy,
We have just found your lovely blog and we are joining in for the 1st time with your beautiful Friday Meme-thanks so much for having us!
Thanks for sharing your stormy story too. What a positive spin on what could have been a very scary moment!
Best wishes,
Natasha, Stacey and Holly.
Glad to have you, ladies!
So glad you stayed safe! Thanks for hosting. :~D

Oh goodness!! So glad every thing was ok! And how awesome to see the good in the midst of the storm:)
I have a very similar memory from when I was a kid. Glad everything turned out ok for you and that there really was a “silver lining” to those storm clouds.
Thanks for hosting Finer Things Friday!
what a great attitude, I think I might get wrapped up in the fact that the kids being up too late…sad but true.:(
Thanks for hosting, this party is always such a good one!
I’m envious that you have a basement. When the sirens go off, our only choice is the laundry closet, on top of the washer, but at least we have somewhere to go.
Sometimes the best times are when we’re forced to be together.
Thanks for hosting!
Glad you guys are safe! I can’t imagine how scary it would be to see a tornado. We have earthquakes out here in the Pacific Northwest.
I’m TERRIFIED of tornadoes!! I hope I never have to go through that with my family, my children would have to be calming me down instead of the other way around I think!!
Also, I messed up my link above and I’m not sure how to fix it…sorry!!
Safety is a finer thing too!
