Finer Things Friday: A Date with My Daughter

finer_things_friday

My oldest is five, soon to be six.  She’s in kindergarten.  She just lost her first tooth.  Her innocence is slowly being chipped away by worldly knowledge.  She’s too darn smart. And she’s growing up too darn fast.

Just yesterday she and I had appointments with the dermatologist.  And since we were making the trip (we live over an hour from our doctors) I went ahead and scheduled the yearly exam, too.  Two and a half hours on the road, three appointments between the two of us… we decided to call it a date.

Oh, what fun we had!

We talked without interruption.  We laughed.  We held hands up and down the escalators at the mall (doesn’t take much to entertain two Tiny Town girls).  She tested out my bathroom rug choices by using them as 5 second nap mats.  We devoured slices of incredibly unhealthy and oh-my-word-I-paid-how-much-for-that? pizza.

We visited a dear aunt and went grocery shopping at a posh Dillons with furniture displays.  We bought 14 pounds of Land o Lakes butter for 50¢ per pound!  We pulled into Sonic at happy hour on our way home.  We stopped for a lady who wanted to cross the street.  I waved her on in front of us with a smile.

My girl said “That was nice of you, Mom.”

She’s watching.  She’s listening.
