Favorite Spring Foods

by Amy on April 5, 2010

When the seasons change from winter to spring, so do my tastebuds and my energy level (thank goodness!).  For my health, that is a great thing as we welcome lots of fresh fruits and veggies into our meal plan, and leave most of our heavy, rich meals for the cozy days of fall and winter.

Here are some of our favorite spring foods.

grill 150x150 Favorite Spring Foods

1.  Anything from the grill.  We prefer to fill it once and enjoy several meals.

asparagus 150x150 Favorite Spring Foods

2.  Roasted asparagus.

3.  Strawberry anything.  This strawberry sheet cake is yummy!

lemonbars 150x150 Favorite Spring Foods

4.  Lemon bars.

fruitpizza 150x150 Favorite Spring Foods

5.  Fruit pizza.

veggies 150x150 Favorite Spring Foods

6.  Dill dip with lots of fresh veggies.  (Bell pepper strips and cucumbers are my favorite!)

slush 150x150 Favorite Spring Foods

7.  Fresh Strawberry Limeade Slush.  Yes, I know I already mentioned strawberries, but it is spring afterall!

 peppers2 150x150 Favorite Spring Foods

8.  Beef and chicken fajitas.  It’s the peppers.  I love bell peppers!

tostadas 150x150 Favorite Spring Foods

9.  Loaded tostadas.  Ok, so we enjoy these all year long, but piling on the lettuce and tomatoes is especially fun in the spring.

10.  You tell me.  What other spring food should be added to my list?  Recipe links welcome!

Everything looks so good and yummy, when can I come over to eat? For me the only thing missing is BBQ sauce, Sonny’s specifically.

Also, I’m gonna have to try those lemon bars. I love lemon and so does my Mom who’s coming to visit this week.

Oh yummy!! I have your taste buds:) Do you like tomatoes? We’ve started grilling them with our bell peppers for fajitas … so good!

I love tomatoes! Never thought of grilling them, though. Must try. :)

We love to “Fill the Grill” – planning on doing it on Friday as a matter of fact. Love spring! Although, here in HOTlanta, it seems to be summer already. 87 degrees in April is a little insane. :)

Ok, so now I’m hungry! Let’s see…#10 should be ice cream. Eaten outdoors on a warm spring evening. :)

That strawberry cake looks delicious. We also fill up the grill when we grill and save the extra chicken for salads throughout the week or we undercook the meat and freeze it and bake it later to get that yummy grill taste. Enjoy all those yummy foods!

That is my kind of salad! Would have to eat it all by myself, though. Hubby wouldn’t touch it. :)

Oh, my! These all look scrumptious! We are in need of a new grill, as we decided after last year with the birds taking residence in our grill to make a nest that we couldn’t bring ourselves to cook on it anymore. I can’t wait to have a grill again not only for taste, but also so dh can cook. :D

It is a beautiful thing when Spring has sprung and my taste buds certainly do change! We enjoyed a big pasta salad and fresh lemonade the other night in celebration of the warm temps. :)

Made your lemon bars for Easter- they were popular!

I love strawberries, too! I especially love strawberry shortcake. Mmmmm. My birthday is in the spring and that has historically been my cake. :)
I also like your roasted asparagus and fruit pizza ideas. Yummy!

After I wipe the drool up off my keyboard, I should tell you that even though I’m a big food planner and wannabe once a month-er, I have NEVER thought of loading up the grill! What a great concept!!
I’m going to scroll back up now to lick the rest of your screen.

I love, love, LOVE asparagus! In fact, we’re having it with dinner tonight! I am so ready for fresh, local fruits and veggies. We’ll be eating lots more salads now that spring is here!

What a great list, fresh fruits and veggies are a must. I also love homemade salsa, and fridge pickles both from our garden.

Mmm, you’ve got me drooling over here. I love that it’s getting warm enough to grill. :)

I love fruit pizza, too! It’s one of my favorite breakfasts. My mom used to make it for my birthday, instead of a cake, since we usually celebrated at breakfast-time.

Blessings,
Michele :)
