Family Proximity

Lance and I are both the oldest of four siblings.  We still have both sets of married parents.  My maternal grandparents have been married for 62 years and Lance still has his maternal grandmother.  We love our family, and it’s a darn good thing because (aside from my brother who was killed in a vehicle accident at 22… we miss him sooo much) here’s where they live

Lance’s side

  • brother — across the alley… seriously… like in our backyard
  • other brother — across town, which in our case is a whopping 5 blocks away
  • parents — 35 minutes
  • grandma — 45 minutes
  • sister — 5 hours (that totally feels like an eternity to us!)

Amy’s side

  • brother — 1 hour 10 minutes
  • sister — 50 minutes
  • parents — 50 minutes (in the opposite direction)
  • grandparents — 35 minutes (the same town as Lance’s parents)
  • aunt and uncle and family who are absolutely immediate family, as far as we’re concerned — 5 minutes

So, this Gratituesday, I want to share my thankfulness that our family is so close.  So accessible.  So handy.  So nearby. We don’t always see eye to eye, and sometimes we don’t get together as much as we should.  But we CAN, and for that I am super grateful!

  1. You are doing a great job on the new blog! We live far from our whole family, we’re talking 15 and 30 hours far… it must be nice to live so close!
My family all lives within 5 minutes of each other… except me :(.

  2. Sometimes I really wish we had family in town. This week though I realized that I DO have an uncle and some cousins in town…and THAT’S family. (I almost wrote about it for Gratituesday actually! Maybe next week!)

I didn’t know you had a blog now!!!! How exciting!

  3. I have a really close knit family and we all live within 30 minutes of each other, but even that seems further away then I would like sometimes! I would love to see my nephews and neice everyday instead of a couple times a month.

    Happy Tuesday!
