Oh my goodness, this was so much fun, and I pretty much stink at anything DIY! You know how much I love MadeOn’s hard lotion, right? Well, Renee sent us her DIY kit to try out. My post-appendectomy patient and I decided hard lotion bars would be the perfect Thank You gift for her favorite nurses, so the night before her post-op check-up (because I like to plan ahead like that
) we got to work.
With MadeOn’s thorough kit and easy to read instructions, I think we had our lotion bars made in about 30 minutes! It was literally a matter of melting beeswax, shea butter, and coconut oil together, then pouring the liquid into molds. We used heart-shaped cookie cutters, dripping the lotion in slowly to form a seal so it wouldn’t all leak out, and then also used some mini-muffin tins.

We left them out to harden overnight, and then I quickly packaged them up before her appointment the next day.

When we finished, my girl immediately asked, “When can we make more?” I think we’ll try to pour some into Christmas cookie cutters for teacher gifts this year!
MadeOn’s DIY Kit sells for $29.95 and includes Renee’s Buttered Life Gift Giving E-book ($5 value). This kit makes the equivalent of six family-sized bars, a $45 value at the refill price.
Would you like to try your hand at making hard lotion? Renee is offering a MadeOn DIY Kit and Gift Giving E-book for one of my readers! To enter, simply leave a comment, any comment, about hard lotion: Have you used it? What molds would you try? What gift-giving ideas do you have?
As always, feel free to earn an extra entry or two by sharing this giveaway on Twitter, Facebook, or your own blog.
Giveaway ends Friday, November 11, at 11:59 pm. Winner will be notified by email. Links in this post are affiliates. Thank you for supporting this site!

Oh, this sounds AWESOME! My DD has Mastocytosis, and I think she could actually use these bars! I would love to make some teacher/friend gifts too. I have a silicone snowflake mold that I think would be just beautiful.
Sharing on FB!!!
Oh how I’d love to try this. I’ve seen her stuff before and it sure is inviting. Besides keeping one for myself, the rest would be given as gifts to my beautiful daughter, daughter-in-love, Mom and the two girls in my office.
I received a lotion bar for Christmas last year and loved that it was all natural ingredients. I have wanted to try making my own.
I’ve never tried hard lotion, but I’d do christmas cookie shapes if I win.
We’ve never tried it, but with dry skin weather upon us, it’d be fun to make, use and share!
I love that the ingredients are actually *good for you*.
I was thinking about doing a DIY hard lotion bar after finding several recipies this year and it is nice to know that a newbie like me could do with with some ease. I have 60 coworkers, 23 of which I work with on a daily basis. I wanted to do something simple and, more importantly, CHEAP for a small tidbit. I think a hard lotion bar and perhaps some homemade lip balm (which I have made and is super easy too!) will be this year’s solution.
Would really love to try these! My poor hands get so dry in the winter. What a fun thing for teacher gifts.
I have never used hard lotions before but would definately love to try it!
I have never tried hard lotion…I have never heard of it before your blog!
I would love to check it out!
What fun! Would love to try it, my hands are already cracking from the dryness.
I have never tried hard lotion, but would love to! Looks like a fun project!
I would love to try these and to use them as family stocking stuffers!
I have not used it, but would love to try it! This would be a great project for my girls and I to do together, too!
I tried some at a craft fair – it was amazing! Would love to win!
I’ve tried it and loved the bar! Would love to make some for myself!
I would love to try some… hearts would be great, and maybe flowers!
I have never tried hard lotion but I have been looking at some recipes online so I would love to try to make it with the kit.
I have had my eye on this kit for awhile now! I am planning on making homemade gifts for Christmas this year and what woman (or man) wouldn’t love this neat lotion!
I have not tried this but sure would love to – sounds great.
I’d LOVE to win this! My hands have been so dry lately, cracking and bleeding….I need some of this stuff!! Thanks for the giveaway!
I’ve made my own facial lotion before, but never tried to make hard lotion. I’m intrigued… Could you add essential oils?
Absolutely! She uses the same ingredients to make lip balm, and adds peppermint. That’s my favorite!
I have never used hard lotion but would love to after all the great things you have had to say about it!
This would be a great activity for my daughter and me to do together this Christmas. I always encourage my kids to give handmade gifts, and this would be great for her to do. Thanks for the giveaway!
I would love to try this lotion and even be able to say I made it. Thank you for the chance to win.
I would love to try hard lotion and this project looks so fun!!
I have never tried hard lotion. I am decorating a table for 6 at our church Ladies Christmas dinner. If I win, I will make them in Christmas shapes and give them as table favors at each place setting.
Table favors. So clever!
These would be wonderful teacher gifts, stocking stuffers, or I bet they would ship well for our far away friends and family.
I have never even heard of hard lotion before. I need to do some investigating into this product. Off I go into a new world of lotion!
I’d love to try it – looks like a great gift idea!
My kids would love this. I think they would be great gifts for some of our elderly friends and family who have trouble opening the lids of lotions. My grandma and her roommate would be happy to moisturize their dry hands without a struggle with a lid. They could keep the bars in a slide zip bag.
I have not used it, but would love to try it!
I’ve liked on Facebook
I haven’t used it either, but want to try it!
I shared this on FB!
Sounds like fun. I’m in. Hope I win. Thanks.
I have not tried before, but now is a good time to start!
I have never tried hard lotion, but would love to.
i love their lotion. i use the bars every night on my hands and feet.
I have heard so much about hard lotion, but have never tried it. I’d love to use it on my son, who has bad exzema.
I haven’t used MadeOn’s version, but have heard so many good things about it. I have used another version in the past, but it had too much fragrance and color. This would be so much fun to do with my kids. Thanks for the opportunity to win a set.
I’ve used a lotion bar in the past, and would love to learn to make them for myself and to give as gifts.
I would love to try a hard lotion. Living in a dry climate, moisturizers are crucial to my family.
I’ve never tried hard lotion, but have heard great things about it. I’d love to try, and I’ve been trying to think of extra little gifts to dress up and fill out the other gifts I’ve been planning for family. These would be great!
I’d never even heard of hard lotion so I thought you made a typo! I think I could even find time to make these gifts and the ingredients are the right kind to actually be useful. I’ve got letter cookie cutters that would really personalize the gifts well.
Im trying to do mostly homemade gifts this year and would LOVE to try these!!
I’ve only tried hard lotion once. I loved it, until I left it in the car on a 110 degree day and it melted out of the tin.
Ack! What a mess!
I’ve never used hard lotion or made it. Using muffin tins as milds sounds like a great idea!
My daughters would enjoy making these as gifts for friends/teachers/Sunday school teachers. Not sure right now what all molds we would use, but could get very creative. Haven’t tried hard lotion but would be a great and fun way to.
I have some Pug molds that would make adorable shapes. What awesome gifts for my Pug families.
I’ve never used hard lotion but would love to try it! Sounds like great stocking stuffers.
I like the idea of using these as teachers gifts, stocking stuffers, or even as part of our care packages that we create for a homeless shelter- We usually include books, socks, mittens, etc. and these lotions would go right along with it.
I love MadeOn!! I first used the hard lotion bars about a year ago and have been hooked ever since! I’d love to win a kit to make some more!!
I have never tried the hard lotion before, but I have heard a lot about it and would LOVE to be able to make some and give them as gifts this Christmas!
I would love to win this! My husband has very dry hands, and using hard lotion works great for him.
I would love to give these gifts to my daughters who loved smelling homemade soap. This would be great so they could try the hard lotion.
I’ve never used it but would love to try it.
I love the hard lotions and that they are natural. I have horrible dry skin and even make my own laundry soap to stay away from all the chemicals. These would be great Christmas gifts.
I love the hard lotion bars, and would love the opportunity to make some more to pass onto some friends as gifts.
I was given a lotion bar as a gift, and loved it. I would love the chance to make my own for gifts!
would love to try and make these
This would be so much fun! I just recently heard about hard lotion and am really curious about trying it, but our budget is just too tight right now. I love making things and would really enjoy this!
I have been wanting to try making these. I would use Christmas cookie cutters as the molds.
Would love to win this and make these for elderly in community!
I love these hard lotion bars! I have made some. And if you get some Essential oil (EO) or Fragrance oil (FO), you can add that to the lotion. That is what I did when I made mine. These are one thing that our family asks for. Especially the older generation. There is also a body butter that you can make that is real good and moisturizing.
We all love the Body Butter that I make, too. It isn’t at all greasy! I do love making hand made gifts. They are also my favorite gifts to receive! =) Too bad we can’t all win!
I have never used hard lotion. This would be a fun way to try it.
Oh, what a great opportunity for my DDs and I to make for their grandmother! It would make such a wonderful Christmas gift. Or with the hearts I am thinking Valentine’s day for grandmothers!
Never used them, but they sound so interesting!
I have been looking at this DIY kit for about a month, trying to take the plunge and try it. I think it would be a wonderful product for my son. He has really bad feet, so I think I would use my football theme molds to make this.
Football molds. Perfect!
I have never heard of hard lotion. It looks like it would be fun to make with my daughters.
I love hard lotion. What fun it would be to make some! Thanksnfor the chance!

I have never used hard lotion, but would love to try it.
I shared giveaway on Facebook!!
i won a bar of the MadeOn hard lotion from your blog in a previous giveaway and I really have enjoyed it! It’s great on my rough, calloused feet.
I’ve never tried hard lotion, but would really like to. My hands get so dry and cracked during fall and winter. I’m constantly putting lotion on to try and fight the dry hands. It makes me so sad for the kids to not want me to touch their face because my hands are so scratchy.
I recently purchased a family size bar and a pocket sized bar and cannot tell you how much I love it. I was planning on buying the DIY kit to make gifts for family members this Christmas. My son, who shares my sensitive skin, also loves using the family bar to put his lotion on after a bath. I just got my 80 yr old grandparents excited about it too, and they recently placed an order for some hard lotion and lip balm. This stuff is fantastic and I will be a lifetime customer.
(I’d also love to win this kit, btw.)
THANKS!
Have never tried it but looks great! This would make a perfect teacher’s gift!

Would love to try hard lotion and have some for gifts for family and friends.
Such a neat idea- I have never heard of hard lotion before this! I have my own post-op patient (we literally just came home from the hospital) and this would be a fun project for her to make for her teachers and nurses while she’s recovering.
Thanks for offering such a great giveaway – and a learning experience all at the same time!
A speedy recovery to your patient!

I would love to try a lotion bar for those dry winter hands!
I think this looks wonderful and I love your story because my daughter works in the ER and many times she is the frontline/first person who has to calm scared, hurting folks. I’d like to give her a kit. You know the story, give a man a fish, he eats for a day, give a daughter the recipe, she feels soft for a lifetime!
Love it! Our nurses were all so fabulous.

I wanted to try a lotion bar, and pregnancy seemed like the perfect “excuse” to splurge. (After all, it’s For The Baby!) It really helped with the itchy belly, and I managed to evade all stretch marks!
The lotion bars are a must-have with winter coming! Can’t wait to try making them myself!
I have just started using these and would love to make some for Christmas presents!
I’ve never heard of hard lotion before. I’d love to try it!
