Disclosure: I am participating in the Verizon Moms Voices program and have been provided with a wireless device and six months of service in exchange for my honest opinions about the product. That doesn’t mean I have any idea what I am doing, which is part of the fun!
By George, I think she’s got it! Now THIS is where my frugal heart sweet talks my non-techy brain. THIS is kinda nice!
Here’s the thing. I’ve known for months that our Walmart (17 miles away) price matches the ALDI (50 miles away) ad. That’s great news, because ALDI milk is almost always $1.99/gallon and their produce prices usually can’t be beat. The notsogreat news is that I have serious Mommy Brain after having 5 children, and I can’t always remember those prices to tell the Walmart checkers what I’m going to pay.
My routine before the Galaxy was to check prices on my computer at home, write them down (oh, the drudgery!), then relay the info in the checkout line and hope they don’t think I’m making up random prices. (We don’t get a paper ad.)
A few weeks ago, though, I was shopping in Dillons, wondering if the ALDI price match would be better at Walmart that week, but I didn’t know because I hadn’t looked at the ad before I left home. Woe is me.
But guess who had the Galaxy in the diaper bag?! This girl!
So there I am, all techy in the dairy department, whipping out the Galaxy and looking up ALDI. Yes, sir-ee, the Galaxy saved me some money that day!
Also? Behold the beauty of the digital coupon. For some reason or other, I only recently registered my 10 year old (15?) Dillons card. And now, I get digital coupons loaded straight to my card. This is beautiful for a couple of reasons. 1) Dillons no longer doubles coupons, so now their digital ones are really just as good or better than paper. 2) Who has time to clip coupons?! (I say that with dramatic flare, but by golly, if I find a coupon I need, you can bet I’ll find the time to clip that sucker.)
What does all this have to do with the Galaxy? Well, now. I like to load all of the coupons onto my card, because I just never know what kind of bargain I may come across at the store. Sometimes I’ll see things on sale that I can pass up at the sale price, but can absolutely NOT pass up at the sale + coupon price. But goodness. With 200ish coupons on my card, there’s no way to know what coupons are on there when I’m in the store.
Or is there? Hmmmm
Enter the Galaxy. If I come across an item while shopping, I can pull up my coupons on the Galaxy to see if I have any matches! Oh, that makes my frugal heart happy!
Now. Please know that I haven’t gone off the deep end. I know that 4g service costs some cash each month, and no, I’m not saving that much in coupons to justify the monthly cost, but it does give me hope! And, it makes me wonder if there are other money-saving strategies or apps that I am unaware of.
That’s where you come in! How do you save money with your tablet/device/smartphone that makes up for or justifies the monthly cost? I wanna know!
Also, let’s talk coupons. My guess is that we’re nearing the time when all of the coupons go digital. You think? I’m thinking we’ll have to roll with the punches and embrace the change, and maybe… just maybe… find even better ways to save both time and money.
