Things I know (and a tip or two):

  • Kids love to eat sugar cookie cutouts
  • Kids love frosting and sprinkles
  • Kids love to create things; especially tasty things

  • Christmas is in two days. (depending on when you’re reading this)
  • We leave Tuesday to celebrate with my family
  • I must finish my shopping.  and wrapping.  and laundry.  and packing.

  • Sometimes it is wiser to leave “mom perfection” behind and delegate “kid perfection”
  • The cookies got decorationed, according to three year old pastry chef, without mom
  • Beautiful is in the eye of the beholder.

  • Oh, and just in case you’ve ever wondered… Betty Crocker cookie packets and a tub of her vanilla icing are pure magic on a rushed day.  I’m going to forgive myself for that one, because I know my kids already have!

Merry Christmas and Happy Decorationing!

  1. Love it! I dumped all my shaped baking pans, icing, sprinkles and everything on the counter today and told my boys to have fun! They did and actually made some amazing creations. I got a LOT of laundry done. It was a win/win situation!

  2. Oh how fun, and great memories. Merry Christmas.

  3. I think those look like some very yummy cookies!

  4. Personally, I think they look wonderful! I gave up making these cookies from scratch several years ago and I’ve never regretted it. If the kids are loving it, which they sure look like they did, that’s what it’s all about. Happy Holidays! 😀

  5. They look wonderful!

We did this yesterday too! and I will admit that you are not the only one who used BC cookie packets and frosting tub! 🙂 I didn’t even color the frosting! I left it white and then used colored sprinkles to be coloring on the cookies. 🙂

I figure that it saved me tons of time and stress then doing it all homemade! 🙂 And the best part is that I got the packets and frosting on the cheap with the grocery sales as of late. 🙂

    Merry Christmas!

  6. Sonshine — That’s what I did! Sale at Dillons plus a couple of coupons = super cheap! 😉

  7. The cookies look great!

  8. My kids always grab the cookies obviously made by other kids first….not the ones expertly made by mom. They LIKE the mounds of mismatched decorations.

  9. What a wonderful idea – those are beautiful cookies!!

  10. These look just like our sugar decorationed cookies. I think I loved our so much more this year because the 4 year old did all the sprinkling and “making fancy”

    Love it!
    Merry Christmas!

  11. What a neat idea–great way to “use down” the sprinkles!! I should do that with my little one. I love the bright colors also Neat blog. Great design.

  12. We have a cookie decorating party at Xmas with some friends…I used to make the gingerbread and sugar cookies by scratch – but found it easier just to make the gingerbread and buy store-bought pre-rolled dough for the sugar cookies.

The fun part for the kids is in the decorating – so they don’t care whether it tastes homemade or not – and I save a bunch of time.

  13. We’ve been baking for four days. I’m almost burnt out and my pants are shrinking! Great photos! Thanks for sharing.

  14. yummy they look really good

  15. Oh, you are the second person in the last few days who has recommended the betty crocker icing – YAY! Thanks.

  16. lol, “decorationing” – that’s cute. It looks like you had fun. Have a great christmas!!

  17. Oh yes, those cookies are beautiful! I love them. They look a lot like the ones that come out of my kitchen. I think all 3 year olds are wired the same when it comes to cookie decorating!

  18. Looks tasty & fun!

  19. Not to worry , packaged cookie ingredients are only ingredients we throw in a bowl only in bag right? LOL LOL they did a great job!
