Deals and Meals, 1/30

In a mad dash of ballgames and preparing for our baby’s baptism this weekend, we made two different stops at Dillon’s.  I’m excited to get my act together and go back next weekend, also.  The Mega Event is on, and it’s too good to miss!  Remember, I purchase much more than what’s in the photos.  We have to to eat a balanced diet!

Mega Event aside, some of our meals will be a replica of last week’s plan-that-didn’t-happen days.  We ditched the menu in favor of a basketball tournament a couple of times and made do with turkey and cheese on the road.

This Week’s Deals

  • whipping cream – 89¢ per 1/2 pint. I seriously did a happy dance when I saw that and the half & half.  I needed both items to make homemade ice cream and never have found them on manager’s special!
  • quart of half & half – 99¢, manager’s special
  • 16 oz. and 24 oz. sour cream – 49¢, manager’s special (Another happy dance!)
  • holiday coffee creamer – 50¢, my husband was along and couldn’t resist.

Mega Event Deals – When any combination of 10 items with the special Mega Event tags are purchased, $5 is taken off of the total order.

  • 3 cans diced tomatoes – 49¢ each and a $1/3 coupon from All You Magazine = 16¢ each
  • 4 cans Ro*Tel – 49¢ each and a buy3/get one free coupon from All You Magazine = 25¢ each
  • All detergent – $3.79 (wished I had a coupon, but we needed this now)
  • Solo cups – $1.99 (Are we the only weirdos who use a sharpie to write names on the cups and then wash them for the next family gathering?)
  • Cheesy Texas Toast – Total junk-food splurge that will be saved for a special meal; Valentine’s Day, maybe? – $1.99 + 50¢ coupon that doubled = 99¢

After scoping the deals and adding to my menu for our family get together on Sunday, we made another quick stop at Dillon’s on our way home from our daughter’s ballgame Saturday.

  • Organic Vegetable Medley, $1.49 – Manager’s Special (Our children love this stuff with a little ranch dressing.)

Mega Event Deals

  • 4 blocks of cream cheese – $1.19 + 2 2/$1.00 coupons = 69¢ each
  • 3 cans tomato sauce – 49¢ each (Sure wish I had more Hunt’s coupons, but this is still a great price for something I need.)
  • 2 Krusteaz cookie mixes – $1.49 + 2 $1.00 coupons = 49¢ each – I know.  Cookie mixes.  {blush} I truly haven’t found a chocolate chunk recipe that tastes better than this box mix!  Anyone else? (And I checked.  No HFCS!)
  • Mayo – $2.99

This Week’s Meals

This morning we ate a quick breakfast of cheesy scrambled eggs, toast, and oranges before church and our baby’s baptism.  Then we celebrated with a soup and sandwich lunch with 30 family members +godparents.  On the menu:

  1. Oh how I miss Kroger and their Mega Event and orange stickers!! While Publix has awesome BOGO deals they never mark stuff down like that.

Can we chat soon? Have a breastfeeding question that maybe you will be able to help with as a more experienced mom. :)

  2. Mmm… taco soup sounds wonderful right about now! I make a pretty mean chocolate chunk cookie but, hey, if you get the mix for a good price, why not? A lot of mixes really are just pre-measured dry ingredients. Without a sale/coupon, you’re paying for convenience, but they’re not necessarily any less healthy than their “from scratch” counterparts. So I think it was a wise purchase. ;)

  3. I miss Kroger! I always found such great deals! We love homemade ice cream here and I can never find a good deal on heavy cream outside of the holidays!

  4. My friends and I have all decided to make our own laundry detergent using Michelle Duggar’s “recipe”- check it out!

  5. Great menu! Any chance you will be sharing the wedding sheet cake recipe? I love (love, love, love!) wedding cake! I can’t wait to see the potato soup recipe too. By the way, we really enjoy your apple dip. I just made some for lunches on Saturday.

  6. I swear I can so rarely find those orange stickers. I almost wish they’d just do an aisle of orange stickers.

I’d be delighted if you’d stop by and share a meatless recipe today for Meatless Mondays.

We’ll be sharing Meatless Meals every week. You can see today’s link-up HERE.

Hope to see you there soon!
