Classic {Finer Things Friday}

Last night after two ballgames, after bathing and brushing teeth and tucking in and prayers for four, after finishing dishes and wiping counters, after scooping fresh apricot crisp and topping it with ice cream, I sat down to write.

“Watch The Princess Bride with me?”

He’d discovered it last weekend, one of many garage sale treasures.  A VHS tape.  Why yes, we do still have our VCR, and have found the tapes last way longer than some of our scratched up DVDs.  Since we don’t have cable, those 25¢ yard sale tapes provide handy entertainment at times!

Writing aborted.  Spontaneous date night with a classic wins.  Definitely a Finer Thursday evening.

  “Aaasssssss Yyyyyooooooouuuuuu Wiiisssssshhhhh!”

What’s your favorite movie classic?  One you can watch over and over?

What Finer Things are you celebrating this week?  Link up and let us know!

  1. GREAT movie! “Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya.” My favorite classic is a big older: Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. The hubby refuses to watch it with me, though, so can I choose the Lord of the Rings trilogy? lol!

  2. one of my favorites. might just have to dig it out this weekend! i also love the movie Barefoot in the Park – always makes me laugh, and reminds me to lighten up a bit. 🙂 happy weekend.

  3. I love that movie! We also have a VCR and a huge collection of VHS tapes that were purchased at garage sales.

  4. I love finding great yard sale buys. We try to pick out a movie each Friday while yard saling for our weekly Saturday date night.

Our “go-to” pick is anything by the Kendricks (Fireproof, Facing the Giants…). Not classics but favorites in our house.

  5. We still have a VCR too, although it has been so long since the kids have watched their VHS tapes I am thinking of selling off their no longer watched titles and just keeping the classic movies my hubby and I love. Mine has got to be “little women”, have never read the book, but I could watch the movie over and over again and still have a good cry every time.

  6. Love that movie–did some artwork for our room using “as you wish”! Left a link, too! Thanks for hosting and have a great day!

  7. I don’t know if it’s a classic, but I like to watch O Brother Where Art Thou, starring George Clooney. It is so funny and I love the singing parts.

  8. Such a good movie! I enjoy watching Fiddler on the Roof. It’s a long musical, but I love it. 🙂

  9. “You keep saying that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.” =) LOVE “Princess Bride”!!!

  10. I have a $.25 vhs copy of TPB too. Good call 🙂

  11. Um, yeah, for some reason the first link I posted was last weeks–I did NOT mean to do that! So sorry, and you can feel free to delete (link #15)!

  12. I love The Princess Bride too, and can watch it over and over. But the movie I NEVER get tired of watching is Parenthood. Love it!

  13. LOVE that you still watch VHS tapes!! We are a no-cable TV family, too, but get by on Netflix movies for occasional screen entertainment.

  14. “Maaahwage is what bwings us togevah…….wuv, twue wuv…….. Hahaha

  15. We got our DVD player just two years ago, when we discontinued our vable. We get most of our DVDs from the public library! We’ve picked up on a lot of old TV series that we missed, as well as a bunch of BBC ones- Monarch of the Glen, set in Scotland, would be my pick.

  16. We love Princess Bride, too! But our primary watch-it-again family movies are the original Star Wars trilogy and pretty much any of the Pixar movies. My hubby’s fave is Master and Commander (not a classic–yet); mine are Gladiator and Waking Ned Devine.
