Finer Things Friday: Right Here, Right Now

October 29, 2009

After a brief but heartfelt announcement expressing our sympathy to a rival school who lost a cheerleader to illness last weekend, we paused for a moment of silence.  Two tiny towns, rival schools knit together by unimaginable grief and a pigskin.
The game went on, because that’s what we do.  We play football, knowing that in [...]

Finer Things Friday: An Awesome Day

August 27, 2009

This is the face of a first grader who

gave in to the sandman at 10:45 the night before school started
came barreling out of her room at 6:45 the next morning (fully dressed and with her bed made!), announcing “The 1st Grader’s awake!”
had an “Everything was awesome!” first day of school.

And this {sigh} is the [...]

Two Weeks in Tiny Town

June 15, 2009

In the midst of surviving enjoying a whirlwind of activity the first two weeks of June, something dawned on me.
People who think there’s nothing to do in a Tiny Town are just plain wrong. (You can disagree with me, but that doesn’t mean I’m not right.)
Here’s what you do when the big town/city [...]

FTF: Tiny Town Carnival

June 11, 2009

There’s no carnival like a Tiny Town carnival! Our sensational nursing home (seriously, they’ve won awards) put on their second annual Tiny Town Carnival this week.  We enjoyed 1 1/2 hours of

Amtrak rides

Gourmet sugar-coated grease

Fake cheese and chips washed down with grape-colored icy corn syrup

And tons of games where the rules could all be broken [...]

Prom Week 2009

April 20, 2009

Perhaps it’s not enough that he coaches football, basketball and track (ahem); Lance is also co-sponsor for the junior class.  In Tiny Town, that equals a big prom week for the two of us.
Just because I’m a curious sort of gal, how many of you decorated your own prom space… tables included?  Yes, we (the [...]

Tiny Town Snow Removal

March 30, 2009

We have a long driveway.  A really long driveway for Tiny Town standards.  It comes in handy for bike riding and scootering and such. Not so handy when it’s buried under 14 inches of snow with 2-3 foot drifts.
Clearing this little path took us (um, you know “us” doesn’t mean “me,” right?) 60 minutes [...]

Small Town Living

March 18, 2009

I ♥ Tiny Town.
Good thing, because tomorrow morning a news reporter will be on my doorstep to interview us about why we left the suburbs, good paying jobs, and the convenience of the city to move “to the middle of nowhere.”  Seems we were volunteered to be spokespersons for a new Tiny Town commercial!  [...]

Job Perk

November 10, 2008

After returning from a particularly frustrating meeting with the “powers that be” in the education system, one in which the outcome resulted in demanding more from his thinly stretched staff, my husband overheard his overworked, temporarily frustrated principal questioning (to anyone who would listen, I think) “Why would anyone go into teaching?”
Well.  I don’t [...]

KANSAS Landscape?!?

November 4, 2008

Our Halloween road trip through southern Kansas, along highway 160, prompted me to take these quick pics. Yes, we’re in Kansas!

Kansas landscape = one of the Finer Things!  Check out lots of great pictures at Wordless Wednesday.

Football Family

November 3, 2008

I love my kids.  Every one of them.  My five year-old girl, my three year-old boy, my one year-old girl, and my 21 teenage boys.  Every one of them.
Lance’s football team has been such a blessing to our family here in Tiny Town.  These are a close-knit group of Godly, public-school taught young men.  Yes, [...]
