So. I knew it was in July. I thought about marking the occasion in some sort of fun, creative way. And then I looked at my archives.
My very first blog post was written on July 18, 2008. I missed my own blogiversary!
What a fun journey this has been!
Truly, honestly, I didn’t even know what blogging was until the spring of ’08. That’s when Laura’s sister-in-law came to my house for an Uppercase Living show and mentioned Laura’s blog. Sounded interesting, so I looked it up.
I was hooked. I followed comment links from Laura’s blog and found Toni, Joy, and Kate. And many, many other moms who are in the trenches, lovin’ their families in the best way they know how.
I made a comment early last summer at Happy to be at Home. Toni contacted me after that comment and encouraged me to write a guest post on the topic.
But I didn’t have a blog. Hmmm… maybe I should have a blog. I’d kinda secretly been thinking about what I’d write, and how I’d write, and when I’d write and how much fun it would be and… it was time.
So, the 3 moms hooked me up with The Finer Things in Life. Within a couple of months I was convinced of the possibilities of having my own .com, so I went for it.
And, here I am, one year later!
This blog has been an outlet for me in many, many ways, but the greatest blessing of all has been the friends I’ve made. Living a frugal, stay-at-home, bucking-society life can sometimes be lonely. Knowing other moms who are doing what I do has absolutely opened up my Tiny Town world!
And meeting those moms in person? So incredible! Laura and I met for the first time last fall. I had lunch with Lenetta on a quick trip to Nebraska. In May, Laura and Crystal came to Tiny Town for a visit.
The very next week I went to Crystal’s home and met Carrie. Just last week my family enjoyed lunch with Sherry’s family, and over the weekend we got to hang out with Janet’s family. So much fun!
I would love to meet all of you! Coming to Kansas any time soon?!
Thank you all for blessing me with your readership, your comments, and your friendship. Hearing from you brightens my day! I am grateful for you!
So… in honor of my blogiversary, what do you want to know? Anything you’ve always wanted to ask (what color my toenails are, what makes me cry, am I a back sleeper or a side sleeper)? Leave me a question and I’ll throw together a post with all the answers. Within reason. A girl’s gotta have some secrets.

Congratulations! I am glad I your blog, it’s been fun! Here’s to many more years of writing!
@Amy Lynne,
I am glad I FOUND your blog. oops!
Congrats!! I’ve certainly enjoyed reading your blog and getting to know you.
A very happy blogiversary to you!
I had to think about a question for you but I got one: Are you naturally frugal, or do you have to work at it? (My guess is your a natural!) And what about hubs, is he a frugal guy?
We are praying about possibly visiting some friends next year. They are moving to Kansas City MO. Are you nearby?
Congrats! You have a great blog that I really enjoy reading. Looking forward to more.
Congratulations on your blogiversary!
So–what color ARE your toenails? LOL
Hi Amy! I was wondering just how tiny a town you live in? I have family in Kansas that we visit often and was curious how close you may be to them? They live in Enterprise, KS. Anyway I enjoy your blog even if I don’t frequently comment!
Thanks

Happy Blogiversary Amy! I have really enjoyed reading your story! I live in Colorado (in the city) and reading your blog has really helped to ‘ground’ me and makes me appreciate (and miss) my country roots. Living in a small town isn’t necissary to live a simple and frugal life, I think it is all in the mind set you are in. I’ve really made a lot of changes in my family’s life since reading yours (and others) blog, all for the better. Like for instance.. After dinner on Saturday night my 9 year old son says ” Mommy this homemade pizza is DELICIOUS! Why do you pay the people at the store to make it when yours is SOO much better!” Now for ME that is a FINER thing indeed!!
@Liz M, You are so right, Liz. When we lived in the suburbs we carried with us our “Finer Things” values and way of life.
So awesome that your son loves homemade pizza. What a fun family food (and event, if you make it together!)
Congrats on your first year! It’s been great! I’ll be honest, yours was one of the first I’d ever read…and it was the story of the concession stand snacks, free entry to games because of being the coach’s family, that caught my eye. Then, come to find out, we have so much more in common!
I wish we lived closer, I’d drive on out there to Kansas and you could come on over to meet one of the “Real Housewives of …”!! hee..hee! Keep up the good work!!!
Wow – you started just a few weeks before me. HOW FUN! I loved hearing how you connected with Toni, Kate and Joy before you ever started your blog. I wish I had…then I would be on WP, rather than having to think about switching over.
You have met so many blogging friends IRL…love that. So thrilled that I have found you now as well.
I don’t always comment as much as I’d like but I found your blog a couple months ago and subscribed right away.
I agree, being a frugal SAHM who actually stays at home can be lonely at times. It’s wonderful to have e-friends and visit through reading and writing posts.
Crystal (Biblical Womanhood) was instrumental in bringing me home and also starting my blog. (You can read about it at Hearth Management on the 30th!)
HAPPY BLOGIVERSARY! (BELATED)
Amy, congrats! I can not believe you have only been doing this for one year!! Oh my goodness. You blog is so refined , looks so great, and is so well done. I figured you have been doing this for a long time. You really do have a great blog and have done lots of good with it. Keep up the good work!
Congrats! I always check your blog for menu and recipe ideas! Thanks!
Congratulations on your blogiversary! What a great accomplishment:-)
Okay, I know that this isn’t a question about toenails… I can’t stand feet
, but what I’ve been wondering here lately is how do you balance using your stockpile? I mean, does it burn that you have to use zuchinni, zuchinni, zuchinni right NOW or are you able to just wait for the right time and HOW on earth do you do that? If I have a lot of something, then I just feel like I have to hurry up and use it right NOW and I know that’s kind of been counterproductive for me and I’m not getting the best out of the sales and coupons, etc. I’d love any hints you could spare. Thanks! I really enjoy your blog too, Happy Anniversary!
@Nell, if you don’t mind… I’m going to write a separate post just to answer this question. It’s a good one, and I do have a strategy! Thanks for asking.
Happy Blogiversary!!!!
Happy belated anniversary, Amy!
It was so much fun getting to meet you and your wonderful family last week! It was definitely a bright spot in my bad week. LOL!
Your fun spirit shines through your blog! I love checking out your blog and seeing what y’all are up to. Need to get together again soon!
I agree with Lisa that it’s a surprise that you’ve only been at it a year. Your blog is very gorgeous and organized and seems like it’s been a staple in the Mommy-blogger world! What a great job you’ve done in a short time (it gives me hope!). A question: How many hours a week do you think you spend blogging/reading blogs?
