Just last week I was saying a prayer for military families. It was the middle of harvest, I’d been a “single parent” for 3 or 4 days (I’m such a wimp!), and I needed to direct my woe is me energy to something more productive.
Whenever I start to feel a bit alone in my parenting, even if my husband is just coaching a ballgame or driving a wheat truck for a few days, thinking of and praying for military wives snaps the funk right out of me. Such an amazing sacrifice they make!
When Bake Me a Wish contacted me asking for support for their Operation Birthday Cake program, a program that sends cakes around the world to soldiers on their birthdays, I couldn’t say no.
This program, carried out in concert with Soldier’s Angels, has been responsible for the delivery of over 6,000 cakes in the past few years. Check out these photos of CPT Dan Murphy’s 40th birthday. How did they celebrate it? By sending 40 cakes for his 40th to Kosovo, of course!
Bake Me a Wish is looking to do something cool this 4th of July. If their Facebook page reaches 4,000 fans by then, BMAW will donate 50 more cakes than it did last month. That’s 50 soldiers, 50 parties and a lot of really great moral!
What an easy way to make a difference and support our soldiers! If you have a Facebook account, go ”like” the Bake Me a Wish page to send more cakes to soldiers overseas.

What a great cause! Thank you for highlighting this, Amy!
Thanks for talking about this! I’ve been having some “woe is me” days lately too. My husband actually just left for a deployment late last night, so we’re trying to get started with our “new normal,” as I’ve heard other military wives call it. It’s amazing how looking at how hard other people have it makes you think though. In the process of all of this, we’ve had a friend diagnosed with cancer, so I can honestly say “I’m grateful that my family has our health” even when I can’t be grateful for much else! Thank you for talking about this, though, and giving me a great idea for the hubby’s birthday while he’s gone!
As a former Army wife (husband was in 10 years and served in Iraq), I love to see organizations like this one supporting the troops. I became a fan and suggested it to my facebook friends. Thanks!
Thanks for thinking of folks like us! I would love to do this for my hubby when he’s deployed again next year.
Thank you SO much, Amy, for sharing this! We are a military family, and yet I had no idea that such a program existed!! Wish we had known about it during hubby’s last three deployments, since he was gone on his birthday every.single.time!
Going to “like” it right now and see what else I can do to help!! Thanks a bunch!
What a great idea! I just gave you a blog award over at Of Such is the Kingdom. (Come and see!) You have a great blog!
