For a simple, fruity, fall comfort dessert, nothing beats a good apple crisp! (Not even apple pie.) We never tire of this autumn treat at our house, with its crunchy sweet topping complimenting the tart apples. I’ve even served it up for a football team breakfast or two. Don’t have apples? Feel free to substitute pears, cherries, rhubarb, or peaches.

Apple Crisp
- 3 pounds tart apples; peeled, sliced, and chopped
- 1 cup melted butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup old-fashioned oats
- 1 cup flour
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon salt
Arrange apples in a 9×13 baking dish. In a large bowl, mix together butter, sugars, oats, flour, cinnamon, and salt. Crumble over the apples. Bake at 375° for 40-45 minutes.
Apple crisp is delicious on its own, and indulgent topped with homemade vanilla ice cream.
So tell me. Apple pie or apple crisp? What’s your vote? (Maybe you should make this recipe before you decide.

Sounds good with pears, too. Thanks for sharing your recipe!
This looks DELICIOUS!! I can’t wait to try it out this weekend; I have all necessary ingredients at home already..woohoo for that!!
That looks so good, and it sounds so easy. We are finishing up an apple pie right now, but I think I’ll try this one next.
I love apple crisp, peach crisp, pear crisp, can you tell how picky I am, haha!
Yum! I’m shocked at the amount of sugar though- my recipe only calls for 1/2c brown sugar!
Would love to see your recipe, Beth. I’m all for trying to reduce the sugar intake!
I think sometimes, with apples, you have to sweeten differently based on the type of apple. We start with a lesser amount and add more if we need to.
I just made this today. I am forever in your debt for this recipe! It’s the best one I’ve tried (granted I’ve only tried a couple before), but for real, it is sooooo good!!!! Thank you heaps & bounds!!
Glad you liked it! We just finished off another pan last night.
