Catch up on my 2013 Day in the Life posts here.
One wake up call at 3:30 a.m. was my only baby snuggle, so my first thought when the 6:30 alarm went off was, “Hooray, Baby Girl!” I’ll take it! My second thought was, “Oh my goodness, it’s the 15th. Yay for remembering A Day in the Life, but it could be a really boring day…”
I hit the shower and got my face on right away. Got dressed and sat down to write a Galaxy update at 7:00. Baby Girl woke at 7:50, which was perfect timing so I could nurse her before leaving for church. At 8:05 I quick whipped up a batch of whole wheat waffles so that my husband could get breakfast going while I was gone.
8:20 ~ Out the door for Mass with Miss 6.
9:20 ~ We’re back and waffles are cookin’. The baby has had her share and is ready for Mama again.
I got her dressed and nursed again (didn’t have much time the first round) while catching up on email and Facebook. Then it was my turn to eat a little after 10. We had errands to run in the next town over, and we never go to town without checking the grocery list, so I looked at sales and coupons while eating.
10:45 ~ Kids are loaded in the car and I’m in the kitchen for some last minute iced coffee travel mugs. Lance comes in with an exasperated “Can I help you with something?!” Then he saw the coffee. Ha! I was forgiven. Lightbulb moment, though. As we were loading kids into the car, I remembered that we wrote “Park Hopping” on our Summer Fun poster and we hadn’t done it yet. I ask Lance what his plans were for the day. It was nice out. We decided to go for it. Errands, groceries, and park hopping today!
11:05 ~ We finally make our way out of town after stopping to visit with a neighbor.
11:30 ~ I sat in the car with a sleeping baby and downloaded apps on the Galaxy (thanks for the suggestions!) while he took the other kids on a couple of errands.
12:00 ~ Everyone loaded up again and we started driving around town. Told the kids to keep an eye out for a playground. Long story short (I’ll explain later), we hit 3 different playgrounds around town in the next hour or so. So fun! After the 3rd park Miss 10 exclaimed, “Oh! So THIS is what Park Hopping is on our Summer Fun board!” You got it, sister.
1:15 ~ Scored some major deals at the grocery store with 4 kids while Lance took the baby out. She was not having fun shopping, poor thing.
2:05 ~ Left the grocery store for surprise #2. (We love not telling the kids what’s going on when we’re doing fun things.)
Annnnnd, since it was after 2:00, it was happy hour! How about that timing? Cheeseburgers and slushes all around. Wheeee!
2:30 ~ We picnicked in park #4 and enjoyed more play time until a couple of the kids were ready to go home. Love it when we can wear them out!
3:15 ~ Hit the road, but made a quick Walmart pit stop for price matching a couple of items first.
4:00 ~ Finally home! I nursed the baby and tried (unsuccessfully) to put her down for a nap. Three of the kids went with daddy to his classroom for a while, and Miss 1 and I unloaded groceries.
5:00 ~ I sat and caught up on email/skype/facebook/etc. while rocking her and finally getting her down for a little nap, the sleepless wonder.
6:00 ~ The kids came back from school and all of a sudden want to eat again. Why is everyone always hungry around here?! I declared it “serve yourself” night, so the big kids made pb&j and grabbed some fruit, and Mr. 2 snagged some string cheese and whatever he talked his siblings into getting for him.
6:30 ~ I walked down to the post office with the littles to get the mail.
There was a football meeting this evening, so the kids and I were on our own. Miss 10 supervised the littles’ bath for a bit while I cleaned the kitchen. Then I took over to wash them and get jammies on. We all kind of vegged in front of a movie for a while.
8:30 ~ I was holding the baby while filling out some forms, and then all of a sudden I realized I wasn’t holding the baby. (distracted much?!) When I looked up I found the sisters hanging out.
9:00 ~ I wanted to wave my magic “everybody brushteethandgotobed” wand, but it was unavailable. And I was tired. And there were little people sprawled out all over me.
Life could be worse.
We somehow mustered the energy to go brush teeth and get everyone in bed.
9:30 ~ The house was (mostly) quiet, and I was nursing a (mostly) asleep baby. Coach and Mr. 8 came in from their meeting, we visited, I put the baby to bed.
10:00 ~ Took my bath, then made sure the kitchen was (mostly) cleaned up.
11:00 ~ Sat down to resize photos and write this post, because that’s totally what I should be doing at eleven o’clock at night when I have to be at an eight o’clock in the morning hair appointment with two girls tomorrow, right?
11:57 ~ That’s now, and I’m ready to sign off. Just one more thing. If you read this before about 9:00 in the morning central time, what should I do with my hair? Bangs or no bangs? (I’ll have the Galaxy with me to read your advice!)
