2010 Blogging Recap

While I’m (still) enjoying a little Christmas vacation with my kids at home (have you noticed?) and making plans for my little slice of the internet in 2011, I thought it would be fun to participate in the Blog Recap over at Musings of a Housewife to end the year.

I give you the first line of the first post of each month of 2010. Here goes!

JanuaryI’m not a packrat.

And thus begins the Declutter Challenge! I’m determined that our 1,400 sq. foot (plus laundry and storage in the basement) home is sufficient, for now. It’s when there is stuff all over the place that I begin to question my sanity.  In the end, I know we don’t need a bigger home (with a bigger mortgage payment, more upkeep, etc. etc.) we just need less stuff. It’s hard with four children, but I’m working on it!

By the way, for those of you keeping up with the challenge and ready for the last link up, it’s coming… sometime next week.

February - Wow, you all have blown me away with your excitement for this challenge!

Really? I don’t want this post to be all about the challenge.  Let’s just say we started off with a bang.

March - Well, we did it!

Sherry joined me for my first (and only – ahem) full-blown once a month cooking day.  I think we were both exhausted by about 2:00, and as for me and my sanity… I think I’ll stick with batch cooking. At least for a year or so.  With a nursing infant in the house, it’s not likely I’ll be achieving long stretches of time in the kitchen for a while.  The whole experience was worth it, though, just to hang out with Sherry for the day and stash some of her yummy lumpia in my freezer!

AprilSo, this wasn’t exactly how I planned it.

My computer was infected with malware, and I was trying to make the best of it.

MayI’ll use regular ol’ noodles, but can’t wait for my zucchini to grow so we can try Linda’s Vegetable Lasagna.

Weekend Wanderings is one of my favorite posts to write.  It’s predictable (every week, posted Friday night or Saturday morning), it’s quick, and it highlights other blogs.

JuneThis is it!

The end of a super-fun Baked Beans Show-down, and I can say that even though I lost!

JulyDo you buy new or used?

Ok, I cheated.  My first post in July was another clutter update, but this one was also posted July 1.  We buy used (vehicles).  Always have, always will.  Here’s why.

AugustAugust 1-7 is World Breastfeeding Week.

That post launched a week of excellent breastfeeding guest posts for the Why Didn’t Anyone Tell Me? series.  (Which WILL continue in the new year!)

And I cheated again… skipped over the August 1 clutter update.

SeptemberHi folks, it’s Toni here, filling in for Amy today, and I have some exciting news to share!

Well, I won’t soon forget that day!  Or the next.  Wow.  Here’s how it all turned out.

OctoberMy big boy and my little boy sharing a cool fall morning snuggle.

Be still my heart!  This is my favorite Finer Things Friday post of the year.  Maybe.

NovemberIt’s not about me.

The kick-off of the 30 Day Giving Challenge. I was honored to participate!

DecemberA couple weeks ago we had a little “date night at home.”

Nothin’ quite like rockin’ the 80′s tunes with the hubby… and Bob & Larry.

There you have it; 2010 in a blog post!  I’ve got big plans for 2011, including finishing the Why Didn’t Anyone Tell Me? series and sharing more of our philosophy and the nuts & bolts on how we thrive on a small(ish) teacher’s salary.  Oh, and food.  Lots of recipes coming your way.  And, of course, a continued celebration of the Finer Things!

One of my 2011 goals is to create a reader survey so that I can do a better job of writing about what you want to read about.  But… it’s always a “back burner” task.  So feel free to tell me anytime if there’s something you’d like to read more about!

I still need to write this week’s Finer Things Friday post, so I’ll say it again then, but… Happy New Year!

  1. Sounds like you had a full year!

I did some batch cooking this fall and it was one of the best things I’ve done. I fully plan on doing more in this new year. I’ll have to read about your experience. Maybe I can steal some of your recipes! ;-)

    Happy New Year!

  2. I laughed about skipping the decluttering challenge because I wrote one of these posts as well, and several months started with my post for your party!

  3. What a great year!! Here is to another good one:-)

  4. Happy New Year from N Ireland.

I have joined in the bloggy recap too, only I did it my own way! :)
