Children’s Chapter Book Series

March 31, 2009

Last year, in a six month span, it was the complete Little House on the Prairie series.  Currently, we’re flying through The Boxcar Children.  Reading chapter books at bedtime with my oldest has become a much anticipated nightly event.
When we’re reading, we ease out of any wrongness or stress from the day.  No arguing, [...]

Tiny Town Snow Removal

March 30, 2009

We have a long driveway.  A really long driveway for Tiny Town standards.  It comes in handy for bike riding and scootering and such. Not so handy when it’s buried under 14 inches of snow with 2-3 foot drifts.
Clearing this little path took us (um, you know “us” doesn’t mean “me,” right?) 60 minutes [...]

Pizza Omelet

March 30, 2009

We love breakfast food. And we love pizza. So, I ask you… why have I never thought to make pizza for breakfast?!
This recipe came about because I wanted cheese on my eggs.  (It’s a weakness.)  The only cheese in the fridge was mozzarella.  Hmmm.  Then I spotted a partial bag of pepperoni.  [...]

Yogurt Coffee Cake Muffins

Tweaking a favorite coffee cake recipe, I came up with these tender, tasty muffins.  They freeze well and are handy to warm a few at a time to serve alongside eggs for breakfast or soup for lunch.

Yogurt Coffee Cake Muffins

1/2 c. butter
3/4 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. plain yogurt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. [...]

Finer Things Friday: A Date with My Daughter

March 26, 2009

My oldest is five, soon to be six.  She’s in kindergarten.  She just lost her first tooth.  Her innocence is slowly being chipped away by worldly knowledge.  She’s too darn smart. And she’s growing up too darn fast.
Just yesterday she and I had appointments with the dermatologist.  And since we were making the trip [...]

Ditch the Cost of Convenience

March 26, 2009

Love the convenience, hate the price. I find myself saying that a lot lately.  Instead of lamenting our country’s economic situation and its impact on my family, I’m slowly but surely trying to become more self-sufficient.  Learning to make or do things on my own instead of paying for convenience is one way to be [...]

Among a few other great deals, ground beef is on sale at Dillons this week for $1.99/lb. So let’s make this a hamburger week, shall we? Also, all of the following recipes freeze well.
